Withdrawal Side Effects/how Long Do They Last?

Updated

I took Eliquis for 6 days, during those six days the side effects were unbearable to the point I thought I surely would die....I talked to my Dr. told her I was going off the medication she wanted me to keep on it or switch to Zeroltto..I could not bare the thought of another blood thinning medication, I went off, she said I could stop all at once. It has been 5 days since I went off Eliquis, I am fatigued from the moment I put my feet on the floor and start moving, just walking from the house to the car tires me out to the point where all my muscles burn and hurt and I am scared I won't make to the car, sitting and lying down I am ok.....how long will this go on, I have not been to work since being on Eliquis to this day, it has been 11 days...I need to function normally, I live alone and have much to do. I am 67 and have always been active up to the day I first sarted taking Eliquis...HELP!!

I was on it for 2 and 1/2 weeks and went off it completely July 16. I had no real noticeable side effects while on it but within a day of going off it I have similar side effects as you. I can't find anything on this but plan on seeing my cardiologist Monday.It is just too coincidental that these side effects started when they did. Good Luck If I learn anything I will let you know.

@LLT & TWK,

Sorry to hear about your situations with Eliquis (apixaban). Seeing as you both have such similar stories, I'm also lead to believe that these are tell-tale signs of withdrawal symptoms from stopping too abruptly(?). I wish I knew how long they'd last, but it could be anyone's best guess at this point, since the time-line in order for our bodies to reach equilibrium may vary from person to person. However I theorize that it may be up to several weeks depending on individual circumstances.

And please forgive for going off-topic a bit here, but it sounds like many of these types of medications are double-edge swords in that, if you take them you risk unbearable side effects and if you stop taking them you also risk unbearable side effects.

So is there any middle ground towards finding a safe means of relief or proper treatment for blood coagulation?

I'm not going to make any medical claims here, but my opinion from observing this information is that the answer may be found in other treatment modalities such as (and certainly not limited to): what foods we put into our bodies on a daily basis, how often we move/exercise to improve circulation, etc...

I truly feel for anyone that has had to endure withdrawal symptoms of any kind and I hope things are starting to look up in favor of a quick recovery.

I hope your withdrawal symptoms ease for you quickly, LLT. What you're feeling in withdrawal is how I feel being on Eliquis. It's an EVIL medication! Just a quick trip to the grocery store (where I hang onto the cart for dear life) and then bringing in the groceries, exhausts me for at least a day. I used to be so active, and this hindrance is very depressing. Sorry to hear that trying to get off it is as bad as being on. Good thoughts to you,,,

Re: Antjie (# 3) Expand Referenced Message

Hi, well I have been off Xarelto about three weeks now, straight on to aspirin as my scans were negative after 6 months on Xarelto for PE. I returned to my GP because I was out of breath walking up my drive way after feeling good on Xarelto apart from the odd symptoms. Well since being off them I feel that there is side effects coming off these blood thinners. I’m hurting all over muscular, my Knee replacement after 7 years ago is bothering me. Dizziness and stress. I’m going to have my second De dimer next week to see if the clotting is still negative. If it's 5 I will have to go back on BT. I hope your side effects subside soon. I have just been for a walk around the garden and up my drive way, just feeling anxious now and hot but my breathing has improved. Take care.

Hi. I had my second de-dimer, last week and it was 5.3. My GP said that if it had been 5 or under I would be ok. He suggests I have another de-dimer on the 30th of May, (2 weeks). In the meantime he sent me for a blood pressure monitor to wear for 24 hrs as my pressure is high. I kept telling him it’s the white coat syndrome, always high when I’m seeing him. I will get the result back on the 31st of May. In the meantime I’m taking my own blood pressure every morning and putting a diary together with my sugar levels. I’m hurting from my waist down and the side effect of Xarelto is the cause I reckon. I’m taking 100mg Cartia Aspirin now along with my Avapro BP medication. These two together is not advisable, looking at the interaction report on them. I have also read that side effects of Aspirin and Avapro are dizziness, panic attacks. And much more. Is it possible to have this looked into? I did mention it to my GP but he avoids the question. My dizziness started when I went off Xarelto and on to Aspirin (Cartia) 100mg. P.s. I have been on Avapro 300mg for at least 10 years with no side effects.
