The Stroke may be a part of the problem. If your husband recently began taking Dilantin, it may be a matter of not finding the correct dosage for his body and particular needs.

I began taking Dilantin when I was a child. I felt weird! It took a little time for my body to get used to the drug, and for the doctors to find the right dosage.

During my years 16-32 I no longer took Dilantin. As a young adult the seizure activity returned. Starting the regular dosage of Dilantin I felt like a ZOMBIE. It took a little while
for my body & brain to adjust to Dilantin again. It is frustrating to a patient, feeling like they are living in two worlds at one time. Laugh when you can, it's good medicine!

March 17,my husband was put on dilantin 100 mg (2 caps two times a day along with depakote, (the depakote he has been on since Oct. 2005) which is 500, 2 tablets twice a day, he is a zombie, no strength and quite disoriented. I contacted Dr. Mon. told him what was happening, and thought he was over medicated, he dropped 100 mg of dosage to see if he reacted bwtter, so far no dice, plan on calling again Mon. I feel as though he still needs to be adjusted on his meds. Is there a possibility that both seizure meds is way too much for him. Need peace of mind, as well as my husband, I can just imagine what is running through his mind when he is choherent, need a reply

I hve been on phenytoin ex 100 mg ,I take 300 mg 2x a day. I havent ha a seizure in five years. I feel like I'm losing mymind though. I feel like I'm walking aruond looking through a glass nothing is clear I feel as though Im a zombie. I never felt like this before and ahve been on dilantin since I was 14. The mood swings are freaking horrible .. Please help!

Melissa, most side effects should wear off as your body adjusts to having the drug.

If this is something that hasn't changed for a long period of time, then you need to speak to your doctor, as no one else will be able to provide you with a solution over the internet.

I have to take (3) 100 Mg Dilantin 1 day and 4 the next day , back and forth like that , and have to take 3 (250) Mg Depakote throughout the day. I believe it is the depakote that really drains the life out of me, I used to take 4 a day, and I could barely work a full time job, people always made fun of me because I was so tired all the time, I can manage better now that I'm cut down to 3 a day. The zombie like feeling also that was mentioned, with my dilantin at one point was so high I was seeing double, I was told later by my family doctor that this was called a dilantin overdose, it was so bad at one point he said if it had been any higher he would have had to admitted me to the hospital for dialysis.He takes care of my blood work now, and keeps it in check, thought some of this may be helpful to others, so hope it is.
