Hi Frankie,

Based on my research, Tramadol's status as a controlled substance went into effect as of yesterday, Aug 18th 2014.

According to the DEA, Tramadol's abuse potential is said to be comparable to other schedule IV controlled substances, such as Propoxyphene. They also go on to state that Tramadol could potentially lead to physical or psychological dependence relative to other drugs/substances in schedule III.

I'm assuming that such details are the primary reason why they felt the need to make it a controlled substance to begin with. However, a more thorough explanation can probably be found within the link below:

Give me a break. I take 50mg of it 3 times a day and it isn't addictive. It hardly helps with the pain but takes the edge off. If this is so, then why don't they put aspirin as a controlled substance? It's all about the money! Can't stand why DEA has to make lives miserable in the process.
