Hello, Katherine! How are you?

I'm sorry, but I'm not sure what type of help you're seeking. Do you need help paying for the prescription, or are you having trouble finding a pharmacy that has it in stock?

To Katherine - Do you have a regular pharmacy that you use? I have severe chronic pain and must take two "controlled substance" pain relievers daily which require a new written prescription each month. When you're a pain patient on these types of medications, the best idea is to always use the same pharmacy to fill your prescriptions, which is what I do. This is one of the requirements in the "controlled substance agreement" I signed with my doctor. Even then, they quite frequently either don't have it in stock or don't have a sufficient amount; pharmacies often don't like to keep lots of this kind of medication on hand because of the risk of robbery, etc. What I do is bring them my written prescription several days in advance of the date it should be filled so they have that in hand and have sufficient time to order specifically FOR ME what I need. [In my case, because I've been using this pharmacy for so long, they know me and, therefore, know how difficult it is for me physically to get out sometimes. Because of that, they will order it for me if I call them, then bring the written prescription in within the next couple days. In general, however, a pharmacy won't just tell someone who "cold calls" them if they have a particular controlled substance on hand or how much they have.] Anyway, my prescription is then put in line to be filled whenever the correct amount of days has passed since the last prescription was filled. Because I have been doing this for 7 years with this same pharmacy, they know I'm not a drug seeker but a responsible, legitimate pain patient. They know that I don't try to fill my scrips early, that I've been using the same doctor all that time for ALL my prescriptions, etc. Bottom line is that I've built a trust relationship with them (which goes both ways!) and that makes it much easier. By the way, I live in Michigan also (northern lower Michigan) and use the pharmacy at a large Michigan grocery/big box store starting with the letter M! :-) I mention this because different states handle things differently, as do different pharmacies. Given your illness, I suspect there's a good chance you'll be taking pain medication for a long time, perhaps indefinitely, so following the general procedure I've outlined would, I believe, be a good and workable idea. I think if you do a consultation with a pharmacist at your pharmacy of choice, explain your situation, let them know that this will be a monthly refill, ascertain if following the above protocol would be workable, etc., you probably won't have the hassles you most likely will if you just walk into any old pharmacy each month. If the pharmacy you choose won't work with you, talk to another one until you find one that will. Then stick with them!. There have been only a very few times in the last seven years when I was unable to fill my prescriptions at my regular pharmacy--being on vacation out-of-state when I needed a refill is one example of why. I have discussed this with my doctor and it's understood between us (in writing) that there will be the OCCASIONAL need to fill my prescriptions at a different pharmacy. Again, it's a matter of being consistent, proving you're trustworthy and going by-the-book as much as possible. All this may sound like a lot of complicated hassle but honestly, once in place, it's certainly far better than stressing every month over how in the world you're going to get your pain medications--which we know just exacerbates the pain. I hope this is helpful. All the best to you, Katherine!:-)
