Where Can I Fill My Prescription

Updated

I am in Huntington Beach CA and this situation is out of control regarding filling prescriptions for oxycodone or any other pain pills for that matter. Do authorities not realize that the people IN PAIN simply cannot drive around 'pharmacy shopping' because they are in pain. So the people getting the pain meds are the ones generally that are not in so much pain or are in fact the ones that then turn around and sell them on the street. duh?! So are they facilitating the drug dealers because they sure as s*** stinks are not helping us, the people that actually need to take them and to the person that said cant you take something else? NO there is nothing else that does exactly the same otherwise don't you think the doctors would be prescribing it because Im sure they are pretty sick of not being able to do their job either. As to the pharmacists who have taken it upon themselves to sit in judgement and pick and choose whose prescription they will fill and whose they wont, remember you cant judge a book by its cover and if you wanted to be a doctor then you should have been but don't be second guessing doctors. Do your job and fill peoples prescriptions if they come to you with one and you have it in stock. I went 2 weeks without my prescription landing me in the emergency and subsequent hospital stay for 4 days. How is this helping anything if the emergency wards are going to be filled with people that simply cant function or move because they are in so much pain. Who comes up with these ridiculous new rules and regs, obviously people that have never been in pain in their lives.

Hello, Nicole! How are you doing? I am so very sorry about the problem that you're having, I know how frustrating it can be.

However, on top of the changes that were made to various regulations this year for controlled substances, there is also a shortage. One almost always happens near the end of the year, as a matter of fact I don't remember the last time there wasn't a shortage the last few months of the year…

It is due to mandatory manufacturing limits, to better keep track of the supply, each company that manufactures controlled substance medications is given a certain allotment each year and that is all they are allowed to produce. Once they hit that number, they have to cease production, until the new year, when they receive their new allotment amount.

The amounts are based on projected demand for any given controlled substance, as well as prior year prescriptions…. however, as I said, I can't remember the last time that those projections were accurate and a shortage didn't occur.

I wish I had better news for you and everyone else that has been posting and having trouble finding their medications, but I don't. I fell bad for all of you, it's a terrible situation.

Does anyone have any helpful suggestions?

I cannot agree with you more! I go to ONE pharmacy and ONE doctor, yet there always seems to be one or two people at the pharmacy who finds it's THEIR place to judge someone for taking a prescription that has been written. I had a very serious auto accident in February, and had two surgeries (I walk with a walker and a "boot") and I get so stressed out every time I get a prescription for pain medicine filled because I am terrified of the treatment I will get. Yet those people who get their prescriptions for "fake" pain seem to get their rxs filled with no problem, and those are the people who get it because their intentions are to sell their medication or use it recreationally. It honestly is adding insult to injury, when I can barely walk, yet run across these horrible, judgmental pharmacy employees. They HAVE to learn to be kind and understanding to those patients that truly need their medication and frankly they should be able to tell the difference between people who are in pain and people who "hop skip and jump" in line at the pharmacy to get pain medication. It is very frustrating. I agree.
