I cant see that morphine 15 mg does anything for me. I was taking 40 mg oxcontin twice a day and something else for breakthrough pain. Since going on medicare supplement insurance I can't get the oxycontin through the company. I was taking dilaudid for the breakthrough pain but living, in Florida, I can't find it at all here. Does Oxcodone do as good as the morphine? I don't know that I can even get that here though. They have cracked down so much on what is dispensed in Florida that any meds is hard to get. Thanks for answering.

Hello, Jeanne! How are you?

I think the problem may be with the dosage of the MS Contin that you're on. Oxycodone is stronger, so for each 40mgs of it that you were taking, you'd need 60mgs of the MS Contin to be equivalent in analgesic effect. Thus, you are on far too low of a dosage.

This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.

Is there anything else I can help with?

I have used Duragesic Patches for over two years. Started @ 50mcg then after a successful but temporary ESI I requested a decrease, my goal to be off narcotic meds in 6 months (dumb move). I asked MD to change meds because what I'm taking is no longer working. He kept me on 10 mg of Roxicodone PRN but changed me to 15 mg of MS Contin bid. I didn't fill Rx yet because I'm worried they won't be as effective. As my pain continues to increase I need something that will work.
