I am on pain management due to chronic pain. I was assaulted upon arriving at my work place. I am tested on a regular basis by a certified lab. I always come up clean. This time my employer sent me for a "random" drug test. This is a worker's comp. case. Came up positive for benzos. They will not accept my explaination of a false positive. I take sertraline, loratadine, benydrl, advil and drink a lot of herbal tea. Plus pain meds,bp meds, thyroid meds busiprone , diazepam, thyroid meds and others occasionally. Do I have the right to demand a retest by my pain doctor, who knows I am clean. I cost the company money because my pain treatment has been going on for 5 years. I want my work record cleared and do not wish to be suspended or fired. I like my job..I am going crazy!!!!

Not sure about the benedrill but I heard energy drinks like Monster can give a false positive for benzos. My friend's now decease boyfriend (drug reasons) was in drug court and was actually keeping clean at that time. He had drank a Monster energy drink that morning. It came up as benzos in his system. Caused a mess obviously. Unfortunately the guy fell from his sobriety and overdoed. I hope this helps.

I have almost the same problem ! I am in a suboxone clinic and test each month. I came up positive for benzo's - Ativan . I have not ever taken an Ativan . I am 6months clean and was really feeling good about my sobriety ! But when Dr told me I was positive for Lorazepam-Ativan, I was so upset ! I talked to him and told him I haven't ever taken Ativan, but of course he didn't believe me ! He said the lab that it was sent out is 100% accurate. Then I started crying because I have been so good and I had no idea that I would be testing positive for Ativan ! I have moved 3 steps forward and 6 steps back ! I am prescribed Seroquel, Cymbalta, requip, primidone, levothyroid, vistaril, mysoline, coreg, lantus, glucavance, zanaflex,, Benadryl, Requip patches, I have Parkinson's and some of these are seizure meds. The dr said he was worried about me because while on suboxone if you take and benzo's you can die of respiratory failure . Please help me anybody ! I have been very strict with my meds and HAVE NOT TAKEN ANY BENZO'S !!!! Do you know if any of these meds would cause a false/positive reading ? I will be kicked out next month if my test shows positive again. But maybe, that would be a good thing ! Has anyone experienced the same ? I have worked so damn hard for 6 months and this is like getting kicked in the gut and left to die ! Thanks any info on my meds causing a false/positive !
