I've been suffering with strained-tight jaws for about the last 3 months. It's not medicine related, stress, or diet. I heard alot about TMJ years ago. Can TMJ start abruptley. I've tried using Skelaxin my muscle relaxant, but that doesn't help either. Is there any relief. What type of doctor should I approach? What medicine might help (over-the-counter or prescription).

Myra, you should be able to get help from either your family doctor or a dentist. TMJ doesn't really start abruptly, its just that the effects are not usually noticed at first, the pain arrives after you have been suffering from it for awhile.

Only a doctor or dentist could properly diagnose you, though.
Have you consulted any medical professionals, yet?

As to to the other question, no, there is no time released formulation of Vicodin.

Go see Oral Surgeon, I worked in Dental Office for 50 years, saw a lot of them. They are very painful!
