Vaginal Bleeding On Xarelto

Hi I'm 25 on xarelto for about 2 weeks now. I was on coumadin for 7 months previously but I had vaginal bleeding constantly from about 3 1/2 months in. Doctors attributed it to side effects. Switched to xarelto started on a Sunday night 20mg Monday morning lots of vaginal bleeding (sorry if its tmi) now its been off and on. I also have an IUD my gyno cleared it as any infections or what not. I'm just wondering if any ladies dealt with this on xarelto. I start 10mg tonight so I hope it helps. This sucks it affects my relationship and everyday life!

Hello, Danielle! How are you doing? I am very sorry about the problem that you're having.

What I think we need to look at here is actually the combination of the Xarelto and your IUD.

IUDs usually do cause irregular bleeding and Xarelto can increase how much you bleed, so it's most likely a double whammy.

You might do better getting rid of the IUD and using some other form of contraception.

Which IUD do you have, is it the Mirena? If so, that would explain a lot, since it is very well known to cause irregular bleeding.

Well since I was decreased to 10mg xarelto the bleeding stopped thankfully! My IUD is paraguard since its non hormonal. I can't have hormones too risky and besides condoms its my only choice.

Danielle, there are other options available, such as the contraceptive sponge or spermicide.

I'm not telling you that you need to switch, it seems your doing well with the non-hormonal IUD, I'm just making you and any other women that may read this post, aware of what other options are out there.

I have paraguard its non hormonal which is all I could have. I love how I dont have to think about it but it can cause spotting which I'm not sure that's what I'm getting or if its from xarelto.

The Mirena is well known to cause irregular bleeding, which could be problematic with the Xeralto, so you might want to discuss such an issue with your doctor.

Xarelto side effects can include nausea, dizziness, headache and joint pain.

Am 42 been taking variety of blood thinners for 9 years and have iud, had same problem.. gun Dr recommended changing ous early. After 8 months of irregular bleeding that fixed it.

Hi my name is michelle. I am also on Xarelto and am bleeding vaginally and have already had my periiod this month. I have been on Xarelto since july. My period is extremely heavy, but this is the first time its happened twice in a month. Im gonna monitor it and i have no cramping. I dont know if i should go to E.R. or not.
Its scary!!!!! I dont want to overreact or spend 6 hrs in the emergency room. So i guess my question is, is it bormal to bleed vaginally throughout the month? Can i wait til my appt in cple weeks or get help immediately?

Go to ER. Been hemorrhaging for weeks after starting Xarelto. End up needing blood transfusion. Getting iron infusion tomorrow. This drug is not good with women who have abnormal bleeding disorders. My GYN wants to do hysterectomy but not can’t go any procedures for 6 months. Docs told me too dangerous that I will bleed for 6 months than once cleared that blood clots are done they will do hysterectomy.

So now I just bleed all over everything. Lots of black. Huge clots that deserve a social security number. Severe cramping. Back pain. Headaches. And will be getting regular transfusions and iron infusions for 6 months.

I’m so depressed.

I started on Xarelto two weeks ago and it immediately affected me. I have super heavy bleeding and nothing will stop it. Even when I go off Xarelto I still bleed. Can’t get a hysterectomy until clots are gone, vicious circle. I feel your pain. I feel like I am a prisoner at home because of heavy bleeding. Doesn’t seem like docs can figure anything out. I was on Warfarin and had no side affects what so ever but it didn’t get rid of my clots.
