From what I could gather, Tanganil (acetyl-leucine) is not available in the USA or Canada. In my investigation it appears to be a product of France, Lebanon, Tunisia and Vietnam. I'm not sure why its distribution is so limited relative to other similar types of medications, however you could always try contacting a local compounding pharmacy to see what they can do for you.

What I'm curious about is how "acetyl-leucine" is any different from L-leucine (the commonly known branch chain amino acid found in high protein sources and numerous OTC dietary supplements)? I see that acetyl-leucine is marketed for treating vertigo... Whilst L-leucine has a reputation for body builders... Any thoughts on this? I wonder if it just comes down to how they are metabolized?

Re: David (# 4)

Most chemicals have a "D" and an "L" version, commonly known as a right and a left-handed version - there are mirror images of the same molecule. Same composition, but shaped or arranged differently. Usually one is active, and the other is inactive. As well, Tanganil and the others have the Acetyl group also attached that L-Leucine does not. Either of both of these differences could account for activity.

Re: Dharam (# 3)

There is a pharmacy in France where you can purchase the product directly rather inexpensively. I have heard that they are beginning clinical trials in the US looking for FDA approval; based on costs to do this i would think that there is some validity to their claims otherwise a company would not be investing large dollars to do this. The price if validated by the FDA will drive the price into the thousands of dollars per month cost in the US.
