Switching From Subutex To Suboxone

Updated

I have currently been on subutex for a little over 3 years at first it was mainly due to the price difference between the subutex And subixone then I ended up pregnant and gave birth in July and in between that time the laws changed and my Dr isn't allowed to prescribe subutex unless your pregnant but I had gotten a extra 6months due to breast feeding and at my last appointment he said he had no choice? My first issue is I'm still breast feeding so what does this mean for my daughter? Secondly I have been perfectly fine on subutex no slips at all! Now I have been taking the subixone for about 6 days and I feel like I'm dying? Is this normal? Will it pass?

I'm very sorry that you're feeling so miserable.

That can happen, especially since the Naloxone in the Suboxone is a new substance for your body, so it's bound to cause some side effects.

However yes, it should pass, but it may take 4 weeks, or so. If things don't improve, after that time, you should inform your doctor.

The FDA classifies this medication as an opiate, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.

Is there anything else I can help with?

Thank you for your response! I'm hoping this will end very soon! I have had a rash on places for almost a week now when I went to the er I was diagnosed with eczema and opioid withdrawal? The doc said the rash is from something else other than the medication change....if I was allergic I would have a full body rash? I'm closing in on 4 weeks so I hope I start feeling better and life can be normal again like it was on subutex thanks again!

I was on methadone for over 15 years. I was on OxyContin but lost my insurance doctor put me on methadone. I have many medical issues. At first methadone helped. But after a few years I got chronic fatigue syndrome so 2005 I got off cold turkey! I would not wish that NIGHTMARE on anyone!!!! I went 54 days without hard sleep eyes diluted. And the horrible pain I can not describe. I had to learn to walk again, got IBS, always nauseated groin pain, leg pain horribly and more! After 8 months I couldn't take the pain anymore and started back on methadone. Yes it helped but again started chronic fatigue syndrome and other pain issues. These last 4 years have been everyday pain. It took 4 years to whine down to 10mg. No one cares or understands in my family no doctors in Louisiana seem to care or know what they are doing. I switched from methadone 10 mg to 2 8mg suboxene. I was praying it would help my pain and I could have my life back. I opened a business and the only way I could get out of bed and shower and build my business was 8mg of dilaudid 3 to 4 times a day. First I went to doctors asking for help for my pain no doctors would help as soon as I said the M word. I did everything from herbs to acupuncture to massages. Every non narcotic antidepressants nothing helped the pain. I have been off methadone for almost 3 months the clinic does not tapper you off correctly. I have thought about ending the pain but I believe in God. I lay day after day in this bed legs and groin hurt muscle aches everywhere and have to use a walker. My father stole my business and I'm now bedridden and can't do anything because of my pain. I'm losing everything! I lost my husband over a year ago. My hands and feet go numb. Its been 2 days on suboxene 4mg in morning 8 hours later another 4mg and at night 8mg. This morning the groin pain and leg pain got a little better but still sweaty and achy. I AM BEGGING anyone to tell me how long will it take for the suboxene to work? I don't know what to do and have zero family support. My son is the reason I push through. But after what my parents did and how they treat me I have to get better and I need HELP!!
