Switching From Exalgo To Oxycotin

I have been taking 16mg of Exalgo 3times daily with 3 doses of 8mg Dilaudid for break threw pain. What is a safe low amount to start of the Oxycontin. My doctor gave me 3 60mg a day and I am concerned about starting a 60mg right away.

That dose of Oxycontin is slightly higher than the dose you were taking of the Exalgo.

Each 16mgs of it is equal to 42.67mgs of the Oxycontin. However, you can't cut the Oxycontin to lower the dose, but you may want to ask your doctor about starting with 2 a day to see how that works for you.

The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.

I thought Exalgo was taken 1x day every 24hrs. Can I take my Exalgo 2x a day? I started Exalgo 32mg po 1x day on 9/16/2015, with Oxycodone IR 5mg 1-2 every 6hrs prn for breakthrough pain. I did great for about a week, then I started to need an increased amount 2-4, 5mg tablets of Oxy IR for my breakthrough pain, which was excruciating. Went to my Dr. on Wednesday 9/30/2015, she doubled my Exalgo to 64mg po 1x day every 24hrs and changed my Oxycodone IR to 5mg 2 tabs po every 4hrs prn breakthrough pain. I believe my pain would be under better control if I could stagger the times I take Exalgo, ie; Exalgo 32mg 1 tab po in the AM, repeat Exalgo 32mg po 6hrs after AM dose.
