The correct spelling of this drug is Subutex.

What is the method for weaning off of Subutex? Should be on this short term or long term? I know there are alot of factors such as amount and length of opiate use but have always stopped cold turkey and cant find any answers on this suboxone or subutex.

please can you tell me if it is possible for people who have been on subutex to come off it, or are they likely to be on for the rest of their lives? The reason i'm asking is that have been with a girl for 5 years now and she has not been able to stop this medication. many thanks

I have been on subutex 8 mg 3x a day and half mg of klonopin 2x day and I have been on them for 3 years, well my Dr was going to quit the practice in September and I had my last appt with him and we talked and he said he was going to refer me to this Dr that was in the same clinic and he said that he was pretty cool, so I asked my Dr if they would change the meds I was on now, and my Dr said no you are doing so well on what I have prescribed and I promise that they will not change them. So my Dr left in September and I was to see my new Dr in December on the 21st but the nurse called me the day before my appt and she said that the New Dr had looked over my report and he wants me to take Suboxone and stop the klonopin and the lyrica, I told the nurse that my old Dr promised me that you would not change my meds, and I could not take Suboxone because of my diabetes it made my blood sugar go high and that they had made me get ä letter stating about how I could not take Suboxone from my diabetes Dr, and that I needed my klonopin because my old Dr made out a report saying that I had PTSD. And she told me that the new Dr would not let me take those drugs I had to take what he wanted me to take, or if I did not want to take the meds that the new Dr wanted they would write me out a 1 month script of my meds and I would have to find a new Dr that prescribes what I take. So I chose that but now I cannot find another Dr and it is not my fault that my other Dr quit and I feel what they done to me is unethical and unlawful. I am on 3 8 mg of subutex 3 times a day and they released me like that they did not even wean me off of the subutex. I really need help because I was looking at what subutex can do for you but you just can't stop taking it, or you will go thru very bad withdraws. And this is how the clinic has done me. Can anyone help me please or refer me to an attorney so I can sue the clinic?

David,

I'm so sorry this has happened to you, it's definitely unethical. I feel your frustration and resentment and IT IS JUSTIFIED. That said I must share realistic option. There is nothing unlawful in his actions as he offered to treat you (regardless of your preference) in his medical judgment it would have sufficed. You voluntarily accepted his offer of a I month supply to hold you over until you could locate an alternate prescriber. May I suggest you focus on finding a new doctor to prescribe you the meds you will need to safety taper down on otherwise you risk a horrific Withdrawal syndrome. If you choose to explore legal relief you can always explore those options at a later time. I fear the frustration you will experience in pursuing a legal remedy will only exacerbate your medical condition. Cases of this nature are almost always fruitless for varying reasons not the least of is proving his actions were reckless. Most lawyers and doctors steer away from these cases. I hope I gave you some food for thought. Best wishes in finding the care you deserve.

I think your focus should be on locating sources to assure your withdrawal will be manageable .your immediate concern should find some alternate medication cuz your Withdrawl from benzos and subutex will be horrific.

Yes I understand withdrawing from benzos and subutex, but I called my family Dr and told them what the Indiana Health Group had done to me. I never flunked any U/A. I am clean, but since my Dr left the practice in which he promised me that they would not change the meds that I have been on for 3 years, if I did go with what they want by taking Suboxone my blood sugar will go up and it usually goes up to 600; that's where my meter shuts off, then I have to figure out how much insulin to use and normally I have to hit myself with insulin 3 to 4 times just to get it down. As for the klonopins I could not handle it. I would go off, I've seen some very bad things that I would not want others to see. Being on the Fire Dept Rescue Unit plus finding my brother dead when I had just talked to him 3 hours earlier and he told me to stop back by after I got done with what I was doing, and I did but before that I went and drank a few cups of coffee then I went to his house and I blame myself for his death. If I would have stopped there first I could have helped him and called the first responders and had him in the hospital, just remembering that gets me all upset. I figured that I would be on klonopin for life with the PTSD. I feel that the Health Group needs to take me back and then wean me off of the subutex instead of releasing me with me still on 3 8mg of subutex 3x day. I could die from them releasing me. I have called every Dr that prescribes Suboxone or Subutex and they are full or they will not prescribe subutex with my half mg of klonopin which my Dr put me on it 3 x day but I only took it twice a day that's all I need to keep me calm and the nightmares away. But I was seeing another Subutex Dr before I went there but that Dr and his other Drs got busted for not checking the people out before he prescribes like giving them a physical. So all of his patients did not have no more subutex or Suboxone but I found this place and the Drs were very nice, until they leave the practice then the practice changes all of my meds and then tell me I have to stop some. I have had cancer and done 8 weeks of chemo then in 07 I had 2 strokes and that's when I got put on disability then everyone knew about me but I did not do any drugs until this one day a guy had opiates and asked me if I wanted to take some and that's where I got my addiction. I sold everything I owned just to get that feeling or I would take some 8 mg dilaudids, but I do not know what to do now and my only choice is to do drugs again or try and see if I can a prescription for subutex because I cannot go thru those very very bad withdraws. My Dr that quit said he was going to take care of his mother in another state, but I feel like calling the clinic and asking for my contract I signed with them and tell them that they need to get ahold of my Dr because I am going to go to a TV station and tell them what my Dr said about them not changing my meds, and they did and cut me from the clinic without weaning me off of the subutex and also my insurance said that they would pay for my office visits each month but I had to pay $175 + $75 more for talking to a girl for 45 min about addiction, and I only get $1300 each month from being disabled and I cannot deduct my out of pocket expenses from buying prescriptions and if I take Suboxone I would have to buy needles every month and insulin. They are creating another problem for me instead of letting me stay on my ref meds and be fine and not complain.

Re: steve (# 3) Expand Referenced Message

Hey Steve, I was placed on Subutex after I broke my back in 2015. Obviously on stronger medication at first, but started Subutex 6mo after the accident. I’m fine now. They wanted me to take them, “so I could have what they called a ‘baseline pain block” after awhile, I said screw the Doctors, they just want returning patients anyways... I was not an addict, but was treated like one going to the doctor’s office that prescribed Subutex to get off opiate pain medication. I went to a website called how to get off drugs [without the spaces] and there is basically just a calculator that will give you a tapering schedule. I’ve been off Subutex for two years now. No counseling, nothing like that. Just followed the schedule and I was great. By the end, it was more frustrating to go by a drugs schedule and not my own. So the timing does allow for the psychological side of it as well. I hope this helped.

Re: Addison (# 8) Expand Referenced Message

A website called howtogetoffdrugs has what is basically a calculator where you enter duration of use, strength and time frame. They will spit out a tapering schedule and if you follow it to the T, you won’t feel any negative effects of getting off the medication. Can use the website for any medication. IT WORKS!!
