Suboxone/personality Change

Updated

Since my son started taking suboxone, he has developed hatred for me. We have always been very close, but now he is verbally abusive. It is only when he takes the drug. I should add, he sometimes drinks beer while on it. Has anyone else experienced this?

He's taking too much !! I've felt the exact same way when taking more than 12mg. I'm on 6mg and feel great. I don't think the beer worsens the suboxone, but it doesn't help. I'd suggest he lower his suboxone. Or, instead of taking it all at once, take half in the a.m., half in the evening. good luck !

my friend has been taking 8mg 4 times a day for about 4 months. Just this week his behavior went off the wall, he is like a different person. Can he be having a reaction to this medication. He has been complaining of severe headaches, his blood pressure is sky high and he is sweating. I am really worried about his severe behavior changes.

my fiance was on pain pills for 7 yrs on and off. i don't believe that he actually has had a true problem until the last 10 months because every other time he has come off of them he has not had any trouble doing so, no withdrawals or anything. but he has recently admitted that he has a problem and came off the pain pills for a wk or so and got put on suboxone. he says that this has been a huge difference for him and he loves it. the problem is, about two wks into him taking suboxone he has decided that he isn't sure he feels the same about me and has called off the wedding. he has also taken some time away from our relationship. i am really not sure what to do or think about this. we have been together for almost 2 yrs and this just completely came out of the blue. he takes two orange (suboxone, not sure the mg) pills a day. he says he knows he won't find anyone as good as me and he doesn't know why he is feeling this way. he also said that the feelings come and go. one day he feels like the luckiest guy in the world to have me and the next day he says he feels like something just isn't right. i don't know if it is the medicine or not, and if it is what should i do? i don't want to give up on this relationship, but i also want to give him his space. i need some help and some advice...please!!

My husband became extremely abusive toward me within a month of beginning therapy on Suboxone. I talked to his doctor about the wild personality swings but the doctor says it isn't the Suboxone. I don't know what else it can be - hubby's drug tests are all clean. All I know is that he's not the man I married, the abusiveness has escalated to the point that I'm afraid of him and we've separated. Glad he's off the painkillers and other crap, but my once loving husband has turned into a psychotic manic-depressive SOB. In the matter of an hour he'll go from wanting to get married again to calling me every name in the book then throwing me around if we're in the same house.

Anyone taking pain meds, then switching to Suboxone is going to have serious mood changes Suddenly lonely. From my own experience of being addicted to pain meds and getting off of them for over 20 years now, and relationships. I have been in love with the same woman for around 18 years now. I have tried everything including suboxone. Methadone was and still is the answer for me. I experienced severe personality changes while on suboxone. That's one of the side effects written on the script. I became so angry that I blacked out. I have never done that in my life. However suboxone will effect everyone differently. My advice is to not smother him, as hard as it might be but if you dont want to lose this guy you might want to study up on the laws of attraction. and show him the side effects part about the personality changes. the answer is different for each person as far as treatment for opiates. suboxone is great for detox but he might want to switch to subutex for long term use. To me taking narcan and bupamorphine at the same time dosen't make sence.

I have been on Suboxone for 3 years and feel like a totally different person. I was always caring, funny and loving, but since being on Suboxone, I am filled with the blackest of hate. I am so angry and hate everyone. Dr. Kept saying it was depression or mood disorder. All he wants is the money. I am getting off this poison and will hopefully return to my old self again.

My granddaughter is now taking this drug after being on Vicodin for years. She has become estranged from her mother but not from me. I do not understand the level of resentment towards her mother. I can only think it's this med. I feel so helpless against all this drama, when I can do nothing to help.

My husband busted my head and didn't even feel bad about it. He threw my wedding ring in the toilet and flushed it. Then he said he was going to knock my teeth out . But thankfully he stopped. He doesn't take sub anymore and he's nice again.

I am in a relationship with a former oxy user. He began taking suboxen and at first it seemed like a miracle drug but he has been on it for awhile now and acts just like he did on oxys. He is moody abusive and doesn't want to do anything. I am at a loss. He isn't in a program..he buys it through other means. I don't expect a miracle answer..I think I merely need to vent. I have stuck by him through it all but when does it end? I'm afraid for him.

I used to have a close relationship with my daughter until she has taken this drug off and on over the past 6 years. We live 10 hours away from me and I can't wait to visit her but every time I come to visit it is like someone I don't know. We don't talk very much and she can be hateful at times. It truly breaks my heart. I wish she had never took pain pills ever. I know this drug is supposed to help but it has taken my daughter from me.

I am surprised to see so many people having trouble with mood swings and depression. I am the total opposite. Getting and staying off pain meds bring me into depression but the suboxone improves my mood, increases my energy level. I hate to think of life w/o it.

My wife has been on it since last fall. I feel hated and am constantly verbally abused. She goes into rages over nothing.
One minute she is loving me and two hours later is in a fit of rage!
It is getting to the point that I may have to get out of the marriage.
She is an extremely hard worker around the house and she has two extremes. Either being very loving or flat out hatred. Tonight because I never go anywhere and decided to take a couple hours me time, she ripped me apart on the phone because I wasn't home for her to go to the laundromat to dry some clothes. When I left she was going to take a nap.
I got home, she took the clothes out of her car and set them outside the street. Haven't heard from her since.
When she goes through these fits for no reason at all, she decides to waste our money on a hotel!
I think I am about done. I am 64 years old and am to the point I want nothing to do with anyone but my dogs!

Yes, I feel this way as well. My husband has those exact characteristics since Suboxone two years ago. He gets severe mood swings randomly, snaps over petty situations. We used to have fun before and now it's seldom due to his life style change into dysphoria from the buprenorphine suboxone!

OH my goodness..the alcohol makes it much worse. My bf was on this crap for a year and was so hard to deal with. It is a miracle drug only if taken for a short time. They become addicted to it also and getting off of it turns out to be harder then the original addiction. It is hell on earth. Hang in there and know it isn't you. All I had to do was look at him wrong and he would scream in my face. So hard. Just try not to take it personally .

My husband has evil fits of anger and then the next minute he loves me so much. We were so in love and then 2 weeks ago he went into psychosis (that had been building up) he moved out and hasn’t spoken to me at all. I don’t know him anymore.

I know what you're talking about. My best friend came out of treatment and was clean and sober and he was happy and really cool to be around. Now he started taking Suboxone when he doesn't even need it. He lied to get the doctors to give him something so he could abuse it, and now I can't even stand to be around him.

I’ve never had mood swings on suboxone nor has anyone I know had mood swings on suboxone. Personally I would suggest an antidepressant ASAP! Hope this helps

I agree suboxene and subutex have been a huge positive change for me and my moods . It totally helps with my depression . I think it should be offered to severely depressed people it’s a great medication to help jump start your life and become motivated to change yourself

Re: Wife (# 5) Expand Referenced Message

Mine isn't the same man I married either... He's hateful, ignores me and the kids constantly and gets annoyed and pissed over nothing. The other day I was telling him a story and he started watching a damn video on his phone completely ignoring me! Then tonight I'm asking him a question while he's eating. I wait until he's done chewing and about to take another bite to ask the question again because he didn't answer and he still f***ing ignores me! Then I'm like hello?? Wtf is your deal?! He's like why do I have to answer something the exact second you ask it? I literally asked what he was staring at because he looked at me funny. He's down right rude as hell. I HATE it!! But he doesn't seem to be that way to his Co-workers... Before suboxone he was funny, outgoing, playful with the kids, would laugh, etc.. Now he zones into video games and we're lucky for him to have a semi good day, 4 times a month.

Sorry to hear about your boyfriend's suboxone habit. As difficult and heart-breaking as it may seem, my opinion is if drugs are more important than your relationship together then I think you'd be better off leaving your boyfriend so that he doesn't bring you down with him. Unfortunately that's what it comes to for some individuals to wake up and realize what's truly important in their lives. Intuitively speaking, I get the sense that he wont change his habits unless you leave him. On a positive note, perhaps when or if you get back together in the future, he will have become a man looking for a serious relationship instead of a high. He just doesn't seem like he's ready for the responsibilities that come with being in love and devoting himself to your relationship. And I do get it, we all go through challenging times and that may be why you're wanting to stick by his side... but I just don't think he'll be motivated to change unless he loses something (or someone) more important in his life. Sometimes you don't realize what you've lost until it's gone.

I have been with my boyfriend for almost 2 years now and ever since we met he has been using suboxone. He has lied to me, stole money from me. It's so bad i dont know what to do anymore. I know he is a great man minus this drug. Over time the verbal abuse, disrespect and name calling just gets worse. One minute he loves me and cant wait for our future then a something triggers him to go off. It's sad that now i can tell if he has been a couple hours without it. He wont stop doing more and more. I dont know much about the drug at all. I ask him questions and he says it's none of my business. He does things that he would not normally do if he was sober. He blocks me out and is so distant it makes me feel like s***. He is so addicted to this drug it's nearly impossible to get him off of it. He complains of the withdrawal and that i dont understand. Is there any support group for this? Anyone have advice? It's ruining our relationship and more importantly his life and his body.
