Suboxone For Neuropathy

Updated

I have horrible neuropathy in all extremities. One is phantom nerve pain, the most unbearable, as the pain is in my toes that are gone. I tried a piece of a suboxone strip about 3-4 yrs ago. It works! I tried so many other things and was going to try to get my nerves burnt, but the suboxone still works. I have been totally honest w/ all my docs in asking to be put on suboxone. How do i get my doc to prescribe this med for my pain management? Everyone is different and this works for me. Help.

I had symptoms of fibromyalgia in my upper extremities for over 2yrs.
Pain pills were not an option to me, as they didn't take the pain away, and they will destroy your liver over time.
My psychiatrist heard about clinical trials where patients with fibromyalgia were having miraculous redults with Suboxone. I had neverr heard of it. I went home and researched it and saw there was no evidence of long term damages to your organs.

I started taking 2mg sublingual tabs once/day. It is a MIRACLE drug!!!
The initial 4-5 weeks, the drug made me feel 'blah' and 'yukky,' but, I noticed the pain in my neck, spine, shoulders was dramatically reduced. After awhile, my body/brain acclimated to the drug. I no longer have any weird or odd feelings from it, AND... my pain is COMPLETELY GONE!
I have taken it for 6yrs..
5 I only take 2mg of Buprinorphine now. I have taken 4mg, but I found 2mg works just as well and I don't want to take any more than needed, since it is a fairly new drug and the long term effects are not fully understood yet.
Suboxone is a combination of two drugs, Buprinorphine and Naloxone.
Naloxone is an opiate inhibitor. Since I do not take opiates, there is no reason for me to take Naloxone.
I don't want to take ANY drugs unless I need them.

I believe, in most states, ANY M.D. can prescribe Suboxone or Buprinorphine for pain management, but they HAVE TO write the words, 'FOR PAIN' on the script or the pharmacy can not fill it.

Suboxone was invented and approved for treating people who are addicted to Methadone and other opiates. It helps those patients from suffering withdrawl symtoms when thery are trying to quit using opiates. If a doctor is prescribing it for that purpose, the doctor MUST have a special license for treating addicts.

The information Sunny Daze post regarding the prescribing of Suboxone is correct, they do have to have a special waiver to prescribe it for addiction treatment, but any doctor can prescribe it for pain.

However, the Buprenorphine in it is an opioid, so it does carry the risk of being habit forming.

As to prescribing it, most doctors are going to want you to try all other options, first, before resorting to taking such a potent opiate

What reason did your doctor give for not wanting to prescribe it?
