Im 29, and I think I may have done damage to my liver. Im scared. I have developed a physical and mental addiction to opiates that has spun beyond what I could have ever imagined. I am in a position now where I have no one to turn to, as confiding in anyone other than my homeboy could result in losing everything I have worked so hard for. And I can't get enough consecutive days off to go to rehab. And I am drowning in this addiction.
About two years ago I had surgery twice in one year. The cause for the surgery was a painful cyst internally. That's where I got my first script for percocet. Then another. Then one more. Then surgery, and the most effective narcotic pain relievers insurance could buy. Then a few more rounds for the postop pain.
I was scheduled to b assessed months later for a third surgery, but lost health insurance coverage when my wife lost her job. So I was still hurting most of the time, but if I'm going to b honest, a third of those doses I took...just because...I wanted to...
Four years later I can't function without taking a lortab or percocet. U sually hydros cuz their easier to come by...I don't want to live like this any more. I take 5 to 6 10/500 a day. That means I'm dumping about three grams of acetominophen onto my liver every day for 2 years or so. And I take adderal for adhd, though usually as directed. And sometime, but not daily, I take maybe 0.5 mg of xanax at night. I am so ashamed of myself.
For the last 2 days I've been experiencing some sharp, localized pain under my ribs on the right hand side, or right upper quadrant pain. My eyes seem to have taken on a slight yellow and red hue. My skin seems to look pretty normal. But I'm so very scared...
Is jaundice one of those things I wouldn't b able to miss? Or am I just being paranoid? I don't know how to get a liver panel without saying I have a raging opiate addiction that I've been suppliying off the street. I'm supposed to b a professional...
How do I get off of this? I can't go to work when I'm would b soooo obvious.
Please someone....I need advice...

I have been there too my friend. Go see an addiction specialist. Be honest about ur abuse, concern about your liver function, and by the Grace of God, you will get a script for suboxone. I did the same and this drug saved my life and bank account. A week or so off of the opiates that carry Tylenol with them will subside and the swelling of ur liver will heal. But get a liver panel. The addiction physician can order the test. It WILL be expensive, but cheaper than the funeral costs you will leave your family. Good Luck, my friend. DO IT, AND NOW. Google SUBOXONE and use their physician locator to find a Dr. that can write this script for you. They will save your life.

Wood really did provide good advice.

The whole point of Suboxone is to minimize withdrawals, as much as possible and still help someone beat their addiction and be able to work and function, while in treatment.

It does require a brief period of withdrawal, before you start taking it, which in most cases you can schedule to occur over some time off, such as a weekend or short vacation from work.

It is then very slowly tapered to help you become drug free.

Are there any questions or comments?

Just reading this, so hopefully you are doing much better. I just wanted to say I too, was in the very same prediciment, but my DOC was methadone & the advise the other 2 gave you is right on target. All I might add would be to, if you have the insurance now, is to call or go online & check 2 things- 1., they have very good advise! 2. Here to help program (provided free by Suboxone). they have counselors that will call you & help you through each step. They dont judge & totally confidential! I guess I have a #3. also to add- this too can be addictive, but anything can, just try to take the least possible without having wd symptoms. this med has a 36 hr shelf life, meaning, what you take today will be in your system 36 hrs. I believe i'm right in how i explained that, if not, someone correct me. Just do as much research & learn about the program as a whole, not just taking the medicine. The med (suboxone) saved my life, but it is a process, but one worth investing in! Good luck & may GOD bless you in your journey. one last thing, do not be ashamed, commend yourself & be proud of yourself, for trying to make your life better & know that you are not alone =)

I pray to God in Heaven that u got the help u needed. I injured my back so many times over the years, and then found out I have degenerative disc disease. To make a long story short I began taking Lortab 10/500 in 1996 and took it up until a month ago, but by the Grace of God I just put it down. To make a long story short I was hurt really bad in my 20's and I didn't take anything but at the age of about 36 I injured my back again and did. I'm also someone who can't take just anything am allergic to alot of things, but needless to say I got out of hand with this pain pills, and I don't like anything to control me. If u completely make your mind up to put them down and leave them alone, and ask God to bring u threw it and have faith He will I promise u that he will because I'm a 45 year old mother and grandmother who can say He did it All for me. I'm not judging anyone because we are all human on this earth and have no right whatsoever to judge. But I do wish u the very best and will be praying for u.

hello, i know what you are going thru, i've been addicted to vicodin for yrs. now, and I heard detoxing off of opiates is way worse than detoxing off of street drugs. My suggestion to you about the liver is to tell the dr. (if you can afford to go to the dr.) that you have been having to take alot of tylenol pm to sleep and that you are worried that you may have jaundice. There are vicodin with ibuprofren in them instead of tylenol, there also are vicodin less tylenol(for example , a friend of mine get 10mg. vic with only 325 mg. tylenol. I get 750vicwith 750tylenol. I asked my dr. was there anyway that he could give me vicodin with less tylenol and he said no manufacturer makes it with less tylenol(which i of course know is not true, because of what my friend gets) I am seeing a new dr. recently so I am going to talk to him soon about decreasing the tylenol. I'm like you, I can't go thru detox at home because i have children, so I can't leave them to go thru detox either. I've recently been trying to cut back on how many i take a day. anyway, if you can get to the dr. just tell him about the tylenol pm(hopefully you can go to the dr.) he should do blood work to test your liver, mine does every 3 months. about 6 mos. ago they said my liver is slightly elevated from my medicine(i don't drink)so it did scare me. If you can try to cut back a little each day until you can go to rehab. good luck to you
