Updated

I started taking oxicodone after my quadruple bypass and I have been taking1mg every other day for about 18 months. Is it dangerous to stop taking it altogether? Are ther any serious withdrawl symptoms?

I post my reply to the other thread. but I wanted to add that every one is different, and that is can be more habit forming for some than others. I took it for 8 months, for two shattered disc in my neck, (6 months prior to surgery and 2 months after surgery. I hated taking it because I would become nauses (had to take a drug for that). It also made me feel like I could climb the walls. I'm the less likely type for anything to become habit forming. So one morning I decided that I would take to Aleve and let the Oxy stay in the bottle. I had no problems, but I know my body and the tolerance. As I said before TALK WITH YOUR PHYSICIAN. Let him or her help you throught this. May god bless and be with you.

I have to agree with the prior post, do not stop without your doctor's supervision, especially with a heart problem.

Even though you are on a very low dose, 1mg isn't even available in the US, you have been taking it regularly for quite some time, and can have some adverse effects if you stop abruptly.

At such a low dosage, your withdrawal effects will not be as severe as someone who had been taking higher doses or abusing the drug, but your body has still become dependent on this med and you will need to be monitored closely while stopping to prevent adverse reactions or heart problems.

wow i have a heart condition also, and my doc gave me a scrip for 5 mg,once a day and 7.5 at bedtime..i guess i better be careful, had no idea it was SO ADDICTIVE.i am waiting for 2 knee replacements, and my pain is terrible, but i think addiction could be worse.i think i will substitute it every other day with motrin or tylenol3's
