This is the 2nd month in a row I went to get a refill on a prescription and now walgreens tells me that the 64.8 mg has been discontinued by the manufacturer I need to talk to my doctor for an alternative. They were only going to give me 5 days worth of pills until I asked how many they had and said I take them all which wasn't even a months worth. So sad they couldn't call me and tell me.

Hello Ics,

According to the FDA, Phenobarbital oral solution has been discontinued by the manufacturer as of 4/5/2012. I'm not sure about the tablets however. What is the name of the manufacturer? I may be able to track down more information once I know...

It's unfortunate that the pharmacy couldn't call to let you know about the discontinuation of these pills before you took the time to go in!

Have you researched any alternatives in the mean time?

The manufacturer is Qualitest, no I haven't checked for alternatives because my vet tells me he has not heard of the pills being discontinued I have now transferred my script to CVS pharmacy alot cheaper and they claim its too is not being discontinued as far as they know. Don't know what Walgreens problem is maybe they just don't want to supply to dogs anymore. Thank you.

Walgreens is lying to you. The 64.8 is not to another pharmacist there. I just
switched from Walgreens to Safeway. They carry 30 mg her in Lodi @ Safeway, I do not know
If they carry 64.8. I do not like that dosage because I have to cut the tablets and they crumble.
Good luck.. call pharmacies in your area. If Walgreens does not have it ..somebody does,

Love to all. Patti

I'm getting my 64.8mg from CVS now at half the cost of walgreens so all is good I guess it was a blessing that they wouldn't fill it anymore its saving me alot of money overall.

Hi...I am not a dog. LOL, Walgreens switches from one company to another, if the company
is out of phenobarbital., they have to seek out another company they can get it from.
I still think one should question ANY Pharmacist who tells you a certain Rx is not available when
in fact you know Qualitest is making the product.
It is up to each of us to get on the phone and call pharmacies in our area. The numbers are on the
Internet. Never risk a seizure as you can die having one. Do not blame the pharmacies....we must
Realize our health is in our hands.. And be activists for ourselves. Good luck to all
