My doctor just gave me a sample of Savella to try for fibromyalgia? Has anyone tried it yet for fibro and does it cause you to gain weight like other antidepressants used to treat fibro?

I've been on it for 4 months now, I've gained 15lbs, BUT I FEEL better! The body pains are reduced, I have more energy, my IBS has improved somewhat as well. I'm not off pain meds or gabapentin, but the addition of the Savella has made a huge difference. Yes I still have bad days, but in general Savella has improved my ability to tolerate clothing on my body ;-) I still get the nausea about 45 minutes after I take a dose though. Although I've gained weight I feel better to the point where I am now exercising 6 days a week, I've lost 7lbs and 3% body fat in 2 weeks just by dancing! I haven't been able to dance for years, without the Savella I still wouldn't be dancing!

Savella will give you upset stomach and it actually takes your appetite away. You are more likely to lose weight. Most welcome the weight loss and the nausea goes away after your body has adjusted to the medication.

I got off of Lyrica because I gained 36 pounds on a 1000 calorie diet with "attempts" to exercise. My dr switched me to Savella for the specific reason of having the same type of medicine but to get this weight off as well. So far I have felt nausea, but bearable and some foot cramping at bedtime. Good luck to you, so far for me I have no appetite and have to force myself to eat. I am hoping for success!

I've tried Savella for the last 5 weeks (after stopping Lyrica) and yes, I feel better, physically, BUT!! I'm hungry (and thirsty) constantly AND I continue to gain a couple of pounds a week. This is with no change in my diet or exercise habits. HELP!!! Will this weight gain eventually taper off????

Been on Savella for about 3 months now for migraines...gained 5 unwanted pounds so far regardless of me keeping calories at 1200 a day. So, for me, gain weight and be undepressed, or be a happy freak and gain a few lbs....

I am nausea about 45 mins after I take it. I take it with food which helps some. I have mixed feelings about this med

Finally off Savella since C5C6 Fusion on 10/13/2011and have lost 5 pounds in 5 weeks post op. I wanted to believe it was not the medication, but it was definitely the medication. There are other ways to help pain with vitamins, do research online. Calcium, Magnesium and vitamin b are primary ingredients in the magic formula you could find.

Savella has been a god-send for my fibromyalgia pain. But, I have gained 7 pounds in the first month of taking Savella. I heard it made people lose weight, but reading these other discussions, I'm glad to know I am not the only person experiencing the weight gain. I will stay on the Savella since I've been pain free from fibro for the first time in 11 years without narcotics.

I was on Lyrica didn't work and made me gain weight. Now I'm on Sevalla and have gain even more weight, insomnia is worse, constantly dizzy and have dry mouth. It's bad enough that there isn't a cure or a medicine that takes away the pain!! Now I am living my life in extreme pain and 70lbs heavier. I was fired from my job for "excessive absences"' the fatigue and pain was at such a high level, I would miss weeks at a time of work. Fybromyalgia is such a vicious cycle :(

A have been taking Savella for 2 weeks now and have lost 8 pounds. I am 5' 4" and weighed 140. so I was a little over weight, but not terribly. I have had very little nausea. I'm not sure how or why I have lost so much weight. I am going into my third week and the pounds are still dropping.

I gained a ridiculous amount of weight on Yaz and Lexapro and then Celexa alone - about 75 pounds over 4 years. I'm now on Savella since FINALLY being diagnosed with fibromyalgia. I was nauseous at first and now I simply have no appetite. I frequently have to force myself to eat! Lol. I have lost about 10 lbs over the past two months and I'm VERY pleased with this and the pain control.

I started taking Savella in 2012. Since that time I have gained 35 lbs!!! I'm still struggling with the weigh gain. It isn't stopping. I watch my diet, walk 3-4 miles a day about five days a week and still the weight gain. I do feel a whole lot better on the Savella...night and day as far as energy levels / pain reduction. At first I thought well...gain a few pounds but feel better. Thirty five pounds later....I sometimes wonder if I should rethink this....but I continue because I am more energized and able to actually go out and do things now.

I also have profuse sweating since I started the Savella. Weight gain/sweating or have a resemblance of a life....active / less pain. It is something to ponder. Blessings everyone and stay well.

I have taken savella 25mg twice daily since November 9th 2015. Along with plaquenil twice daily. I had a horrible cramp after every time I took it in the beginning. It has mostly stopped. And I still have the nausea but it's not so bad if I eat the right foods with it. Nothing acidic. I have lost ALL appetite for "junk food". Cokes, cut them out completely on day 1. I couldn't stand the taste of chips dip or soda and candy. I felt like I couldn't get enough water to drink. I was so thirsty. And my dry mouth symptoms just exploded. It's horrible but I have been taking evoxac for that. But I feel great. I had headaches DAILY and now there so rare!! I hurt a lot in the beginning but I feel great now. I can get out of bed and do so much more. I have lost 16 pounds from November 9 2015 to December 16 2015. I have def lost appetite. For all foods really. I really only eat just to take my med. even when i feel like I'm starving in not hungry but my body is. I only eat because I HAVE to. I just don't have a taste for food any more. I've seen how much I overate before. I never thought I ate that much food or junk before. All the things I wanted before I don't now. These meds will make u sick but if you just stick to it they are very much worth it. It just takes some time. The sickness is well worth it. My doctor had me on zofran for nausea before the 12/16/15 apt but put me on phenergan. He said most people don't want phenergan because it makes you sleepy. But the zofran was horrible. I already have issues with constipation and that made it so much worse. I told him I'd rather be sleepy. That's what I'm use to anyway. And it's not as bad. I would only need it at most 2 times daily if that. Morning and night. I haven't had to take it in morning yet just at night. I eat a sausage biscuit every morning and it goes good with my med. this medication has turned my life around completely. I believe in these meds. It's not an instant pain reliever but it makes you feel normal. I was diagnosed with sjogrens and lupus in 2011. And got a complete diagnosis from my new doctor who explained so much and diagnosed me with fibromyalgia and rheumatoid. I am 22. Before I seen him, I would run into a wall or something and the pain was intense on my arm, only place I really felt it. Or when I scratched my leg in a certain spot or stuff like that. I thought was all normal. I thought everyone felt that pain because of course you run into a wall or something it going to hurt. But he hit that pressure spot in my lower back and I BURST into tears. I had never felt that pain there before like that and it hurt sooooo bad. He said I know exactly what's wrong with you and I can help you. And he has done exactly that. He's a great smart Doctor. 1 month has been a complete turn around for me. I haven't known normal in so long. My bad Days are becoming less and less. I am starting to feel GREAT for the first time since I was 15 years old.

I am on the 5th day of the Titration packet. First 3 days are a low dose, the next 4 are a bit higher. By the 8th day I will be on the full dosage. I did experience an increase in appetite and ate more, but I am now getting that back under control. I gained about 4 pounds. I'm just very glad I didn't get nauseated like most people. The trick to that maybe taking your pill right after a meal. I have been pain free for 3 days now and haven't used a loritab for the first time in 11 years!!

I have been on Savella for 5 weeks now, for fibromyalgia. I have not noticed any nausea but have gained 13 lbs. I was already about 30 lbs. overweight, so I'm having a hard time accepting the new weight gain. I don't know if it's me or Savella, but 13 lbs. in 5 weeks is kind of a lot. I haven't noticed much of a reduction in pain yet, maybe a slight edge off some of my aches. But I was told it could take several weeks to work, even months, so I am going to stay on it for now. While it is validating to see other posters saying they gained weight on Savella, it is also discouraging obviously because I don't want it to be true that weight gain is a side effect of Savella.
