Savella helps with depression but it made me gain weight also.My whole family is overweight so I feel predisposed to it.I am the only one in a large family that isn't.I am obsessed with weight gain so maybe that's my problem.

Savella has been a god-send for my fibromyalgia pain. But, I have gained 7 pounds in the first month of taking Savella. I heard it made people lose weight, but reading these other discussions, I'm glad to know I am not the only person experiencing the weight gain. I will stay on the Savella since I've been pain free from fibro for the first time in 11 years without narcotics.

I have gained 6 pds in 5 weeks on Savella. I'm experiencing a lot of nausea. Now I'm developing Acid Reflux problems. I know this sounds awful, but not only am I experiencing a lot of heartburn, I'm also regurgitating my stomach contents. I'm worried about damage to my esophagus. The nausea, acid reflux and weight gain has been a real challenge. I did discontinue Savella for a week and went back on it. It definitely helps my pain level.ÂÂIt says thatÂDopamine-active drugs can cause this.Â

I found this info on the U. S. National ÂMedical Library online.Â

Gastroesophageal reflux disease

Peptic esophagitis; Reflux esophagitis; GERD; Heartburn - chronic; Dyspepsia - GERD
Last reviewed: August 11, 2011.

Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is a condition in which the stomach contents (food or liquid) leak backwards from the stomach into the esophagus (the tube from the mouth to the stomach). This action can irritate the esophagus, causing heartburn and other symptoms.

Causes, incidence, and risk factors

When you eat, food passes from the throat to the stomach through the esophagus (also called the food pipe or swallowing tube). Once food is in the stomach, a ring of muscle fibers prevents food from moving backward into the esophagus. These muscle fibers are called the lower esophageal sphincter, or LES.
If this sphincter muscle doesn't close well, food, liquid, and stomach acid can leak back into the esophagus. This is called reflux or gastroesophageal reflux. Reflux may cause symptoms, or it can even damage the esophagus.

The risk factors for reflux include:
Alcohol (possibly)
Hiatal hernia (a condition in which part of the stomach moves above the diaphragm, which is the muscle that separates the chest and abdominal cavities)
Obesity
Pregnancy
Scleroderma
Smoking

Heartburn and gastroesophageal reflux can be brought on or made worse by pregnancy and many different medications. Such drugs include:
Anticholinergics (e.g., for seasickness)
Beta-blockers for high blood pressure or heart disease
Bronchodilators for asthma
Calcium channel blockers for high blood pressure
Dopamine-active drugs for Parkinson's disease
Progestin for abnormal menstrual bleeding or birth control
Sedatives for insomnia or anxiety
Tricyclic antidepressants
If you suspect that one of your medications may be causing heartburn, talk to your doctor. Never change or stop a medication you take regularly without talking to your doctor.

Symptoms

More common symptoms are:
Feeling that food is stuck behind the breastbone

Heartburn or a burning pain in the chest (under the breastbone)
Increased by bending, stooping, lying down, or eating

More likely or worse at night
Relieved by antacids
Nausea after eating

Less common symptoms are:
Bringing food back up (regurgitation)
Cough or wheezing
Difficulty swallowing

Doctor prescribed savella. I am already taking 20 mg. daily of paxil. Also, I cannot take anyhting with epenepherine. Read info states that there is epi in this medicine. Worried about taking it. Also, am trying to lose weight not gain weight. My fibro causes more fatigue than pain... what to do?

I have been on Savella for a year now. I have gained weight, but not as much as what other people seem to be gaining. I stopped my antidepressant because it was not agreeing with the Savella. Im assuming that is because Savella also works as an antidepressant. My pain is in my heart area so there is no way i will stop the
Savella. I am all straightened out now mentally and pain wise, just not happy with the weight gain, especially with already being heavy. I'm just gonna have to try to work out a little and watch my portions and sugar and hope that helps.

I was on Lyrica didn't work and made me gain weight. Now I'm on Sevalla and have gain even more weight, insomnia is worse, constantly dizzy and have dry mouth. It's bad enough that there isn't a cure or a medicine that takes away the pain!! Now I am living my life in extreme pain and 70lbs heavier. I was fired from my job for "excessive absences"' the fatigue and pain was at such a high level, I would miss weeks at a time of work. Fybromyalgia is such a vicious cycle :(

So great to hear your feeling better. I don't know how long or how often you took the Lortab but be careful (check with your doctor) it is addictive and your body may have gotten used to it. If it has, it's better to taper. Believe me. I know.

A have been taking Savella for 2 weeks now and have lost 8 pounds. I am 5' 4" and weighed 140. so I was a little over weight, but not terribly. I have had very little nausea. I'm not sure how or why I have lost so much weight. I am going into my third week and the pounds are still dropping.

I was staking 50 MG morning and evening, 100 mg total a day. I stopped taking Savella after three weeks. It caused terrible headaches (I am not usually prone to headaches). It did not help pain much. I really enjoyed dropping the pounds, but decided to stop Savella. The headaches were bad and scared me a little. My Dr. did not really do any test, she just assumed since I have pain it must Fibro. I am not comfortable taking a med. just to hope it helps something.... I am going to see a couple of specialty Dr.s next week. I do not think my problem is fibro. My main problem is constant muscle spasms all over which over time causes pain and tiredness. Wondering if it is MS, but of course no one has checked me for that. :(

I've been taking Savella for almost 2 months and have noticed a decrease in my appetite. Not a huge decrease, but a decrease none the less. I was pleasantly surprised by this as my doc didn't mention anything about weight gain or loss when he was explaining the medication.

I gained a ridiculous amount of weight on Yaz and Lexapro and then Celexa alone - about 75 pounds over 4 years. I'm now on Savella since FINALLY being diagnosed with fibromyalgia. I was nauseous at first and now I simply have no appetite. I frequently have to force myself to eat! Lol. I have lost about 10 lbs over the past two months and I'm VERY pleased with this and the pain control.

After coming off of the Savella I continued to feel terrible with aches and pains everywhere. I was also having muscle spasms so I continued to search for answers. I ended up at a neurologist who found out that my B12 was very low. After taking B12 and folic acid for a month I am much better. The aches and pains are better and the muscle spasm are nearly gone. I would encourage each of you to have your B12 checked. The symptoms of low B12 are about the same as fibro. You'll feel like your dying or at least maybe wish you were! I was also diagnosed with fibro and that is not what my problem was, it was low B12.

I'm also taking B12 - nearly a month now. Maybe I will be able to stop the Savella in the near future. I previously had an iron deficiency which caused the leg spasms, cramping and pain but I was able to correct that with an iron supplement. I wasn't sure about my B12 but my primary doctor's PA recently advised that I begin a supplement because of heavy menstrual bleeding. Honestly, my pain was different this time than what I experienced with an iron deficiency and I felt like I was developing RA. Those tests were negative. My health problems seem to still be somewhat of a mystery but I do feel better with Savella, gabapentin and B12.

Ms. Odie I have been doing the vitamin thing also and the ones you mentioned are great! I added vitamin D to the mix (1000 mcg per day is what I take) and LOTS of vit B12. I'm not a doctor but its helped with me.

I do take it for my FM and it works well. I have been on many prescriptions for it and it might be the one that works the best. However, I did a little test and found out that when I cut out sugar from my diet, the FM goes away.

I have been on Savella for about a year now. It does help my Fibromyalgia. I do want to eat all the time. Have not gained weight luckily. Just eat healthy foods & know once you take this medicine you cannot just stop taking it. Talk to your doctor to been winged off of it. I do like the medicine & the nausea only last a few minutes after I take it now.
