Rx Number On Pain Med Does Not Match The Original Fill Rx Number And How Could My Refills Expire

Updated

I use Walgreen's. My pain med, Norco 10/325 is given to me with 2 refills, for a total of 3. I go to my Dr. every 3 mos. Unless I get sick between visits. I have noticed that on numerous occasions my Rx number on the refills do not match the original Rx number. Why? I should never have a prescription for this expire, but have seen many that have expired when I checked online. Somehow along the way, due to the appointment scheduling, I would have one refill left when I went to the Dr. At my 3 mos. Appt. When I would pick it up, I would give them the new script and tell them to put it on hold so I would only have to call instead of making a trip to take it and another to pick it up.

The 6 no. Time limit was intact and all the refills on the one on hold would be gotten before the 6 min. Period. There should not have been any expirations on these scripts, and there have been a !of.

As I stated, refill numbers on consecutive monthly refills don't match. It is a mess. I can enter a Rx number on the site and it says it don't exist! I picked up my refill on May 4, I think, and knew there was one refill left. Printed on my bottle is NO REFILLS. DR. AUTHORIZATION REQUIRED. How does this happen? I pulled it up on line and it stated online, not on my bottle, that there was 1 refill remaining. I had my appointment on the 3rd and got all my maintenance Med scripts, I take daily plus my Rx for my pain pills. I an not having them hold the new one cuz I still have one more refill, because nobody can explain why I had Rx' for this to expire and the reason they give me for all the different numbers on refills is that every time they change a supplier they change the Rx number. This makes no sense to me. Can anyone make me understand this?

Another thing..when I have checked my Rx history on line last month, they do not have all my Rx on it. It don't show meds that I got from Dec 13 to current. I an calling about this to corporate.

Is all this expiring stuff and messed up refill numbers for this med meant to confuse me as it has. Something is not right. When I called the druggist about the 'no refil' on my bottle, he told me that I did have one left, and acted like I was crazy and I have to go show it to him. I told him these errors are not acceptable. I don't know how rpthe kable PRI ted like that and the computer there being right. I don't know how to get the answers. I hope someone can help.

Hello, Edith! How are you?

Okay, first of all, those RX numbers mean nothing except to that specific pharmacy as another way to allow them to find the records of that prescription in their computer, so how often is differs from one refill to the next doesn't matter, at all. You don't have to be worrying about that. As long as they get the right one, when you request a refill, that's all that matters.

And this medication does contain the narcotic Hydrocodone, so under the new regulations, it is normal for some refills to expire or for your doctor's authorization to be required, before it can be refilled. This is just something that everyone has to deal with, now.

And even if it is printed on the bottle, as long as they still have one in their computer, that is what matters, not what's on the bottle.

This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.

Is there anything else I can help with?

Your prescription # should be the same for the first time you fill it and the two refills, but should change every time you present a new prescription from the physician, even when it is a continuation of a current medication. Most narcotic medications have a limit as to the # of times they can be refilled, if at all. Check again to see if the number changes each time you present a new prescription from the doctor.
