Quetiapine Lupin

Updated

I have had issues with Lupin's bupropion XL, and now it seems I am having issues with Lupin's quetiapine. It seems like everything they make is full of side effects.

After starting quetiapine 100 mg instant release (sorry I don't know the manufacturer), I noticed I would fall instantly to sleep. Now that I am taking Lupin's quetiapine 300 mg, I have insomnia. That really doesn't make sense, because quetiapine is such a strong sedative, especially 300 mg instant release. I have even taken 100 mg of trazodone on top of 300 mg of quetiapine, and I am still not sleepy. I sleep until 11 am, I don't feel rested at all, and can't wake up in the morning without 5-6 alarms.

I've also had issues with weight gain (normal), binge eating and eating cravings (normal), but then also I've had issues with muscle soreness. I can't work out, and my feet burn really badly when I walk. I can't do any distance running at all, when I used to run half-marathons. I have great running shoes so that is not the issue.

My last complaint with the FDA and Lupin was basically shoved off. The conclusion was that Lupin "ran some tests," but then did not provide any feedback about the results, or admit anything at all. The FDA is powerless now that it is run by pharmaceutical executives who have neutered the agency.

I'm going to ask my doctor, and then ask the pharmacy, to see what the best plan of action is. If the doctor doesn't want to change doses, I'll ask the pharmacy to change brands.

It has been known to cause a manic reaction in some people that take it, according to FDA reports, so that could be what you are experiencing that is causing your insomnia. It has also been known to cause neuralgia, as well as just general pain, along with blood pressure problems, weight gain, and vertigo. NDC code: 57297-0449.

It is actually not a strong sedative, it is an antipsychotic, and while they do cause drowsiness, and somnolence in some people that take them, not every medication, works for everyone that takes it, the same is relevant to the dosage.

Aside from this and the Trazodone, are you on any other medications?

Your doctor really has no control over what manufacturer's product that pharmacy provides you with, unless they write the prescription as brand medically necessary. When a medication is available as a generic, whichever on your pharmacy carries is usually dependent on who is offering the cheapest price, via their distributor, when they need to restock their supply.

Re: Lo (# 2) Expand Referenced Message

I had to switch to Abilify (aripiprazole) 10 mg manufactured by Camber. No noticeable side effects once dosage was stabilized. Changing medication was the only way to get away from the horrible side effects I've had with Lupin-manufactured prescriptions.

I've since found that Seroquel (quetiapine) has a 4% chance of causing muscle soreness and swelling. It was the particular combination of side effects with Lupin's quetiapine that made it unbearable. Insomnia, muscle soreness, binge eating, and weight gain were creating more problems than they were solving.
