My daughter is on purbac peadiatric suspention, she is 4 years old and has 5 ml as a daily dose to prevent bladder infection as she has urinary reflux. she has been on it for 6 weeks and has had 5 night terrors during this time. could the purbec cause night terrors?

It's difficult to say whether or not they've been caused by the antibiotic. Is she still having them?

This one can sometimes affect some people in very odd ways. Have you consulted her doctor about it?

I think it would be a good idea to have it checked out, just to make sure there isn't something else going on.

One GP has advised that it is not the anti biotic that is causing these horroble night terrors and that they are a physiological thing to do with the central nervous system that some children suffer from especialyy around 4 years. Another GP said that purbec is known to cause hallucinations and that i should take her off it. i have moved to a new place and both doctors are new to me so not really sure who to trust. i have been giving her the meds early in the morning to give it a chance to work through her system well before bed time and so far she has not had another episode....if they come back i will take her to a paediatrician...is hard when there is not a doctor you know well or trust close by.

Just read the info from the link you sent and it lists hallucinations, depression,nervousness and insomnia as possible side effects....will just have to see what happens over the next few days .
