This medicine is a vasoconstrictor used to treat dizziness which occurs when standing or sitting up.
Midodrine should only be used in carefully selected patients. This medicine causes a significant increase in blood pressure when lying down on your back. Your blood pressure will be monitored carefully during treatment. Some medicines or medical conditions may interact with this medicine. INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions, allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding. USE OF THIS MEDICINE IS NOT RECOMMENDED if you have a history of pheochromocytoma. Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns about taking this medicine.
SIDE EFFECTS, that may go away during treatment, include itching or tingling of the skin or scalp. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR AS SOON AS POSSIBLE if you experience difficulty urinating. CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY if you experience chest pain, slowing pulse, pounding in the ears, headache, blurred vision, or fainting. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist.
MEASURE YOUR BLOOD PRESSURE REGULARLY according to your doctor's directions. BEFORE YOU BEGIN TAKING ANY NEW MEDICINE, either prescription or over-the-counter, check with your doctor or pharmacist. This includes any medicines that contain decongestants or diet aids such as phenylpropanolamine, pseudoephedrine, or phenylephrine. IF YOU EXPERIENCE headache, blurred vision, pounding in the ears, fainting, or slowing pulse, tell your doctor immediately. If you experience any of these symptoms, do not take any more of this medicine unless your doctor tells you to do so. FOR WOMEN: IF YOU PLAN ON BECOMING PREGNANT, discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of using this medicine during pregnancy. IT IS UNKNOWN IF THIS MEDICINE IS EXCRETED in breast milk. IF YOU ARE OR WILL BE BREAST-FEEDING while you are using this medicine, check with your doctor or pharmacist to discuss the risks to your baby.
