Anyone know how to safely get off eliquis and back on just aspirin?

Well I've been on Eliquis for a year following atrial flutter and 4 days ago I misplaced it so I haven't taken any in 4 days. Now I'm seeing all these terrible things written about it, but at the same time I'm seeing warnings not to stop abruptly. My cardiologist gave me the impression that it was virtually side effect free and I would be on it for life thereby greatly decreasing my mortality rate. Well I'm getting in the car and going to CVS right now and purchasing 81mg aspirin and let the cards fall where they may.

Hi, saw my vascular dr. today. I,’m to continue the daily low dose aspirin daily. Have had no problems with the transition. Have been off of Eliquis for 2 months now. I’m to see him in a year unless there is a problem before that. Have felt fine. I wish everyone well with their protocols.

Hi Peter, I am experiencing very similar symtoms to what you describe. I was on Elequis for 2 months to treat a blood clot. I am now getting off cold turkey but experiencing headaches, dizziness and distorted vision. Did your symptoms away after getting off the med? Thank you.

Marty Love to join in. Just stopped Eliquis 2x a day. Been on Eliquis for ever. Had two open heart operations and lived many years in the AFIB world. My cardiologist gave his blessing and put me on a 325 MG Bayer aspirin. So far; so good. I would be happy to answer any questions.

Yes. I got off Eliquis because it was way too expensive. You are paying for a name. Eliquis was a product that helped people get off Coumidin. It accomplishes this. However, if you can not shell out $300 per month; a 325 MG Bayer aspirin will do the job. It thins your blood and helps prevent strokes. If you are still in Afib; I would defer you to your Cardiologist before switching. This is what I did and it works; plain and cheap.

Go to the 325 MG not the 81. The 325 MG BAYER does the job. I am not going to argue with David (#1). What he does with his situation is wonderful and I wish him the best.

Any alcohol in any amount clashes with Eliquis.

Jon; for me; I had three open heart operations in addition to a quintuplet by-pass and the secret is to find what works FOR YOU. Once you find the correct combination that works for you, Eliquis becomes moot.

Hi - I was on Eliquis for 3 mos. - other then some itching & some insomnia I was ok. After 3 mos. I was taken off & put on a baby aspirin daily. I also use a steroid inhaler daily & the combination has caused purplish red spots to form on the back of my hands. Not nice to look at so I camouflage them with makeup. Hope your protocols are all helping each of you.

Hi I have been on this vile drug for 3 years and am currently weaning myself off of it. I have had a stroke, which was a result of having gastroenteritis and not able to hold down any of my medication, but the down side was because I was on apixaban, my damage was more severe as there is no antidote for this drug and so my brain kept bleeding until the drug was out of my system.

Hi I am currently weaning myself off of this vile medication. Fingers crossed so far so good. I believe there is a more natural approach to most drugs, but pharmaceutical companies can't make money from those, it's all about the mighty dollar, not helping people.

I agree with you. Aspirin is about as natural as you can get. The secret is the underlining heart issue. Mine was clogged arteries and afib. Bypass took care of clogged arteries. It took over 7 ablations to get my heart back in sinus rhythm. Each case is different. Make damn sure you check with your doctor before you go off Eliquis. For me; once underlining issues were corrected it was simple. No more Eliquis. I take one 325 mg Bayer aspirin and I am fine. My diagnostics are perfect and I save a ton of money.

I have posted before but I had AFib. They put me on Eliquis and had terrible nose bleeds. I cut my dose in half myself and I was good. Now I split a 5mg in half and take it at night. Essentially 2.5 mg. Also take a baby aspirin once a day along with fish oil,flaxseed pill. Have been great. My pulse is 63 most of the time. Probably check with your doctor but I did my own diagnosis.

I had ablation done on 12/2017 for AFIB. Doctor put me on Xarelto in November. After ablation I began to feel exhausted and my legs became so weak I could hardly stand. I thought it was just after effects of ablation. Went for my 30 day checkup and after explaining my symptoms she switched me to Eliquis. After about two weeks the pain in my right leg became so severe I could not walk on it. Each day goes by I get weaker and feel I have to drag my right leg to walk. I am having dark urine and muscle spasms just about all over. There is not any hope of sleep as I am in so much discomfort I can't sleep. DO NOT USE EITHER of these drugs. The side effects are horrendous. Calling my doctor tomorrow to tell him I am getting off and if he disagrees I am still switching back to aspirin.

My comments are for either Mary and Tim. My heart procedures are numerous quintuplet bypass, 7 ablations, 8 electrical heart paddle shocking attemps and after 6 years I am back in sinus rythem. Eliquis or other blood thinners are fine to a point but you need to work closely; very closely to go off them and onto aspirin. 325 Bayer is the ticket. I can only say it works for me. 2/3's the cost, no nose bleeds and very natural. I repeat you must work closely with your cardiologist to get off Eliquis and X to go to a natural drug such as a 325 MG Bayer. It works and saves $$$$$$$$$.

Yes by all means work with your cardiologist. But I think they dispense Eliquis to probably cover themselves to some degree. There seems to be no middle ground except 5 mg. So when you are rushed to the hospital due to nose bleeds you find your own middle ground. They need an option to 5mg and they don’t.

John #114 has raised an excellent point. I suspect doctors have to adhere to current dosage amounts thru prior agreement with FDA in order to get approval for release. Legal and/or financial deals are all part of any new drug placed on the market. It is how it works. Still one must closely with your cardiologist because each case is different by diffinition.

I half dosed with Eliquis with my Cardiologist's blessing. Then after no rythem issues resurfacing; dropped Eliquis completely. Me personally do not need Eliquis anymore and I can get the same blood thinning and clot prevention thru Bayer 325 once tab per day after breakfast.

You can cut your tablet with a pill cutter from the chemist, if it is coated the empty capsules from the chemist too will be fine to pop your cut pill into it. If you are not sure how much to cut ask your pharmacist they know better than your GP. I did this with Pristiq antidepressant as they did not make 25 mg only 50mg in Australia. I did the same method and worked well with no side effects. I would never go on pristiq again. My husband is a retired Scientist and he guided me on what to do. A pill cutter cost very little, just a few dollars and the capsules come in a sealed bottle.

By the way, I’m on 20mg Xarelto for PE, hoping to see the hematologist in March and a CT scan to see how I’m doing. So many side effects with this too, but as is with all of them. Cheers

Thank god for all the people who have posted regarding the drug Eliquis. Since Sept. 1, 2015 my horror story would have started and continued these 2 years and 5 months later, but for some truly remarkable gut feeling, I contradicted an almighty heart surgeon's dictum to me, that at my age 83, at the time, with my high blood pressure, and my proven AFIB (an irregular heart beat) I would have to take Eliquis and the drug Metoprolol permanently for the rest of my life or else I would either have a stroke or a heart attack in very short order. It was the hardest decision I ever have had to make knowing the frightening possibilities. Going on the internet I found this chat room with so much great information. Now it's been two and almost one half years later and instead of the DRUGS, I take every supplement I know of to thin my blood NATURALLY, plus 81 mgs of aspirin, plus other supplements, all vitamins, cut out as much salt and sugar as possible, exercise regularly and keep busy with painting, singing, gardening, cleaning - it goes on and on. I regularly feel I'm always behind. Today everything moves so fast that stresses me out more. A lot more than worrying is it going to be a stroke or a heart attack. I definitely made the right decision for myself and at least half of my decision was the result of reading all your most appreciated posts.
