They are both SSNRI antidepressants, however, Pristiq is very new to the market, it was just approved on February 29. 2008.

The most common side effects include: nausea, dry mouth, fatigue and dizziness.

My husband took prestiq for 2 weeks. He became aggressive and violent. I now have the children amd families involved in my life due to the fact the neighbors witnessed him destroying our yard. Our life was good before, i just wanted him prescribed something since he seemed so stressed. Needless to say he is under doctors care and the doctor told me he would never prescribe prestiq to anyone ever again. We are all doing well now we decided that a little stress can not hurt anyone but, the medication prescribed for stress could.

I have been on prestiq for a month and never felt better. No ill side effects at all.

I was prescribed Prestiq at 50mg dose. After 3 days of taking the Prestiq, I started having severe muscle jerking, inability to speak, and a very 'drugged' mental state.

My husband contacted my psychiatrist who directed me to stop taking the medication.

One reason given for my reaction was serotonin syndrome. I do have a high sensitivity to medications, so the outcome may have been different if I had started on a much lower dose than the recommended dose.

I have had terrible issues with sweating every day about 3 hours after I take the medicine - as well as at night. Has anyone else experienced this and does anyone know any ways to eliminate this side effect? I have been on this for about 5 weeks and I am about to ask to come off of it because this is so bad. I was sitting in a movie theater, completely still and in air conditioning and the sweating started. It's unbearable at work and embarrasing. Anyone with a suggestion?

I have been on Prestiq for about a month, and tomorrow I am going to ask my Dr. to put me on something else. I feel very irritable, I have a low level headache that won't quit, I am tired all the time, I am constipated, and I have a constant craving to eat. Also I keep having hot flashes.

There is really no way to eliminate side effects, the only option there is to take another drug to treat them, however, then the new drug will have side effects of its own.

Generally, most side effects wear off within a few weeks, as your body adjusts to the medication. If you have been taking it for more than a month and are still having problems, then it is definitely time to talk to your doctor about other options.

Like I said in my post, this is a very new drug, so it is possible that all of its effects are not yet known.

I've just started Prestiq after being on Effexor for years. I love Effexor but cannot get samples anymore. I've started to drool which is embarrassing. I'm also a bit foggy.

I have been on Pristiq 50 mg for a full three weeks now and I feel like it has helped me a great deal so far. I didn't feel any of the side effects that anyone else has mentioned and the only negitive thing so far would be that I have trouble sleeping through the night, but compared to the depression that I was having before that is nothing...So far so good!

I have been on Prestiq 50mg for about 5 months due to high anxiety and depression. In a previous message someone asked about sweating. I have experienced sweating as well but I found out later that it was due to hyperthyroidism. The anxiety/fatigue/depression/sweating/not sleeping at night etc can be signs of thyroid problems so I would suggest that you don't just write them off as side effects of the drug Prestiq and go in for a full fledge physical. Prestiq has worked wonderful for me when it comes to the anxiety and depression.

I started taking Prestiq about a month ago and took my last dose four days ago. I decided to stop because my pre-Lexapro PMS was as bad as it have ever been. I didn't think about withdrawl symptoms, but now I feel dizzy, weak-kneed, and can only stop crying when I sleep. But when I sleep I have the weirdest dreams. I have a call into my doctor, but was wondering if anyone here had a similar problem. How do you get through the withdrawal?

I just got off the phone with my psychiatrist after being on Wellbutrin 300 mg for the past few months. I have been dealing with Major Depression since 1987. She has tried everything with me from Lexapro, Celexa, Zoloft, etc... Wellbutrin used to work years ago, but it just doesn't do it anymore. After reading all these comments, I am afraid to try Prestiq, but something has to work, so I guess I am having no choice. I am 42 and I need to be a much happier person. If I have some side affects with happiness, than it is better than being miserable like I have been. I normally am a very happy and outgoing person and I miss it.

I've been on Pristiq now since Oct. and it has worked incredible well for me. I really do not have any side effects. I am energetic, clear-headed and I'm actually doing things around the house etc. It is really great for me. I was on Wellbutrin, but became really, really paranoid. Pristiq is similar to Wellbutrin. My sugar cravings have decreased and I have lost about 10 lbs since I started this medication. I would encourage everyone to just keep on trying medications don't give up, I think I've tried just about every medication out there.

Now I have been on this Prestiq since 12/15/08 and just last week the girls at work said they want the old me back, that they don't like they don't like how I have been lately. (short with them..mean..) I really didn't like to hear that at all. I don't know what to do. I don't know if I should stay on it a little longer and see if it starts to work or not. I don't notice any change, I am still really depressed and all I do is stay in and sleep whenever I am not working. I don't even bother to get out of my pj's (Even the whole day after Christmas). The only side effects I am having is the blurred vision and my eyes burn and are watery. After reading SThrash, I really want to give it a chance.

I just want to say that every person deals with medications differently and you should try it for yourself and see how it works for you. I switched from Effexor 150mg to Prestiq 100mg. and I like Prestiq much better. I am sleeping much better and I have no side effects at all. I had been on Effexor for 5 years and just switched a few weeks ago.

I have taken pristiq for 5 days. I have been taking Celexa for years and before that I took every antidepressant out there. My Celexa hasn't been working well for a year or so, but I have been too afraid to try anything else. I have had so many reactions to other drugs. I finally got to the point where I had no choice but to change my medication. My doctor gave me the Pristiq. I am getting better every day. I am shocked to be honest. I never expected it to work. I still have relapses, but over all my mood is changing. I'm having less panic attacks and I'm feeling more positve about life. As all drugs affect people differently, you wont know unless you try. I know it's scary to take a chance on new medicine because it might make your depression worse, but just think how good you'll feel if it makes you better. I have never felt an antidepressant work so quickly and I am very grateful to my doctor. He has given me a second chance at happiness.

I was prescribed Prestiq back in November, and I felt great, lost some weight (I think possibley that was b/c I felt like doing more things and became more active) and had NO side effects what-so-ever. Its Janurary now and my samples ran out, and I have no prescription coverage. I havent taken my pill in about 2 weeks, and I cant say i have felt the fore-warned withdrawl, but I do feel a little less happy, though not nearly what i was before prestiq. I think this is a good drug, although everyone is different.

I was given Prestiq for nerve pain. I took it for about 3 months and about ba week ago I stopped taking it because I was having low cramping, blurred vision, was always tired, and I mean REAL tired. Napping as much as my family would let me. NOW... I feel like I am stressed out for everything and I cannot sleep if you paid me. My heart is racing and I feel stresses like I have never been in my life! This has got to be the pristiq. Anyone know if this is true? If so will it go away soon? I don't even want to tell my dr I stopped it, unless withdrawels might harm me. He will give me something else. But shouldn't he had told me something when he gave it to me? Shoot, the pharmacy didn't even give me any info on it. I can deal with it if I just knew it might end soon. Any help out there is appreciated.

I was on Lexapro for years and had to change to Celexa because my new insurance would not pay for the Lexapro. I like the Celexa but I feel hungry all the time and am not able to lose weight. I don't know if it's due to the Celexa but my doctor said Prestiq may help me depression and help me lose weight. I'm wondering if I should try the Prestiq.

Mary, Are you still on Prestiq? You sound EXACTLY like me as far as history with these kinds of meds and I was prescribed Prestiq today. I've been on Wellbutrin for over 10 years now, and now my Dr. recommended adding Prestiq because the Wellbutrin isn't working as well. I've tried at least 10 different meds over the years. Thanks for any info.

I have been on prestiq for over a year. I only take 25 mg. After a number of years on zoloft (great for mood, bad for sex) I decided I wanted to find a med without sexual side effects. prestiq has been good. No weight gain and better orgasms! At first there was nausea, but stick it out a couple months, see if your body adjusts. One thing....the withdrawl is horrible if I forget to take it. Not looking forward to coming off this one if that day should ever come. frankly I am a bit melancholy on the 25 mg, but its only enough to motivate me to change the things that need to change. I felt overly complacent on the SSRIs, and always hungry. Hope this helps someone out there.

I had not trouble with my sex drive on Prozac. I'm now on Pristiq because Prozac stopped working for me. It feels like my sex drive has diminished. Does anyone else experience this? I am also 48 years old so I wonder if part of it is just that I am getting older.

I have been taking this med for about 9 days. At first I had very srong anxiety issues, which I handles with a Xanax (only as required...low dose) Now..I feel like my energy is coming back, more positive and able to cope better. Yes sleep is a problem, but over all so far I reccomend. I'm giving it 30 days to see if it's for me. Like others have said you can't evaluate in a week or 4 days. If your really depressed try it. I've dome Wellbutiron and Effexor. This seems to be better...that's my 2 cents. Everybody is different, so if your having issues, like serratonine syndrome, don't push it. Stop...good luck

Ive been taken Prestiq for 1 1/2 years now and felt good on it however I did gain approx. 20 lbs in two months which I have now also been diagnosed with borderline low Thyroid. I do not know if all of this is due to taking Prestiq or if it was a coincidence. What I do know is when I needed something for my panic attackes and restless nights Prestiq worked wonderfully. However because of my other issues I have now weened myself off of Prestiqu (which was difficult) but I know have chosen to do all natural suppliments for my Thyroid as well as my panic attacks and moodswiings. So far so good everything is working well. I chose to look more indepth with my issues but for someone that is in need of Prestiq it will work for you.

I have been taking this medication for 1 week. I will continue to take it as I know it takes awhile for the therapeutic effect. Just wanted to mention my SE including the abd cramping, sleepyness and yawning. My anxiety is definately better, not having so many worried thoughts and sleeping a lot better at night.

I have been on Prestiq for approx. 8 months and I am going to the doctor to stop. Worked great at first then after 4 months I noticed I became very short tempered, and I became numb as far as feeling anything, I just did not care. I lost interest in things that I really use to enjoy. I have noticed periods of heavy sweating without any physical activity. Does anyone know what type of side effects you have when stopping this medication?
