My boyfriend has been prescribed Phenytoin ex 100 mg. 3 tabs b4 bed. What is the medicine 4 and what are the side effects? He is 33 yrs old and and fell and struck his head 2 nights ago due 2 what the e.r. doctors believe was caused from a seizure. This also happened once 2 years ago. Any idea the warning signs 2 look 4 and what may bring them on????a

I had a brain heommarage 5 yrs ago,and so that there is no chance of seizures i take 300mg at night,i had 2 seizures then but since being on this medication i have never had another one since.3 tablets at night for 5 yrs is a little price to pay,so it doesnt happen again

No, Phenytoin is the actual active ingredient, it's the generic name, it's an antiepileptic.

Side effects may include nausea, dizziness, suicide risk and gum overgrowth.

Angelica, it's really hard to know what the triggers may be for any given person, especially if the doctors were unable to figure it out.

However, one thing that should be avoided are rapidly flashing lights, such as disco lights, dance halls, video games and etc. because they have been known to trigger seizures in some people.

Les really has it right, taking this is a small price to pay compared to the dangers associated with experiencing seizures.
