Is there a change in the dosage of phenobarbital 30 mg and if so why aren't pharmacies and doctors on the same page. I have been waiting for 2 wks for my prescription to be filled. I have taken 30 mg for 40yrs for a seizure disorder. I find this irresponsible on all levels, my health has been put at risk with everyone just shrugging their shoulders.

Hi, Margy! Sorry about the problem you're having.

I haven't been able to find anything listing the 30mg dosage as being discontinued, or of there being a shortage.

Learn more Phenobarbital details here.

Has your pharmacy given you any reason for what they can't fill it?

Have you tried a different pharmacy? Have you contact your doctor about trying a different medication or dosage?

CVS pharmacist said they did not have it...not sure what "it" was . I have taken 30mg for 40yrs and all of a sudden there is an issue. I did not look at my new refill script so I have no idea if it was written for the 30mg as usual or if it was written for 60mg because they did not have the 30mg last time. Long and nasty story. I kept hearing the #64 and that someone (they) no longer were making 30mg or 60mg or whatever....also said they were going to be phasing out ...something....maybe the 60 will go to 64mg and the 30mg to 32mg. I read nothing about discontinuing or phasing out. I finally called an 800# for the mfg West-Ward and they said they were "out". In desperation I called AT&T benefits and spoke with someone and he said maybe the didn't have the 60mg but had the 30mg and could fill it that way. Can we say punch drunk and extremely confused. I was able to get my ,meds today after 2wks ridiculous. I had some meds set aside for an emergency. No one ever said let me call another store and see if we can borrow some or let me call your physician and see what he would like for us to do. I have to get a new prescription in 3mos I can hardly wait. Very rude and irresponsible people. Frightening experience. I apologize if I may have come off as a little out there but my head was just spinning with the different responses and facts. Thanks so much for responding.

Hi Verwon, here I go again, my doctor wrote the script for 30mg and CVS tells me each time the 30mgs is being phased out. I checked with a mfg and they said they had no knowledge but they were on back order. I just don't like taking more than I feel I actually need.
