No, the pharmacist did nothing wrong. If he feels he has reason to be concerned about a controlled substance prescription, he can and should speak up about it. He is, after all, held responsible for what moves through his pharmacy.

Pharmacists are taught to question any medication prescriptions that they feel may be suspicious.

Whatever his reasoning was, whether he though it looked funny as written, or he was concerned about the dosage and amount, he obviously had a valid enough point to get the attention of your insurance and your doctor.

Dilaudid contains the active ingredient Hydromorphone, which is a potent narcotic.

This means that pharmacists have to pay close attention to such a prescription and questions anything that may not seem to be on the up and up.

I am sorry you had such a problem, but he was perfectly within his rights and his job to question it.

Are there any other comments or questions?

I see this all the time, pharmacist over riding what the dr. wrote. In a country that prides itself on freedom, where you can buy 100 proof grain alcohol, cigarettes, guns, parachuting from planes i find it hypocritical that u cant go and get a med without someone from getting involved.

I had similar issue. Had a script for 30 xanax filled at Walgreens in jan 2011. I didn't like taking pill every 6 hours for my tremors and asked the neuro if there was something longer acting. The family doc prescribed the xanax but not for tremors, I hadn't seen the neuro yet.

He called clonipin into walmart since my husband is so cheap he wouldn't pay the extra $6 to go to Walgreens. I can't drive anymore so I was making it easy for him to pick up.
The next day I called Walmart to see what time the rx was ready and they said 'no can't fill it, has drug interaction with xanax and prozac. I hadn't been on Prozac since 2006 and told them so. They said its active in my file and my doctor would need to call and cancel it out.
That doc is not only retired but I saw him in another state before I moved to where I live now.
So neuro calls today and asks how clonipin is helping and I wa like 'what?' I have no clonipin the pharmcy thinks I'm trying to get drugs from differnt docs at different pharmacies.
He said well are you? I said why don't you call my family doc and find out. Why am I doing your work?

If I was gonna be stupid enough to take those meds all day 365, why would I get scripts that were on a record? Besides my MS makes me so tired I can't function with no pills. Add depressant pills and I'm in bed sleeping all day.

My privacy was violated since I only had one xanax rx for 30 pills in January and the neuro nurse told me to go ahead and taken them if they help tremors.
Now I'm undergoing tests because they think I have cancer on top of multiple sclerosis and I can't imagine how hard it will be to get drugs for treating the cancer.

Screw the pharmacist, he should have been a DEA agent instead!

Verwon, then lets turn the power over to the pharm. and forget the doctors.I bet the pharm. has no problem in taking pain meds home to his wife without a prescription.
