Percocet Detox

I'm a chronic pain patient due to Fibromyalgi/Chronic Fatigue and Degenerative back & hip disease, for 21 years I've tried all kinds of meds and only narcotics have ever helped.. I'm on Percocet 15 mg, 1 every 4-6 hours, for 6-7 yrs now. . (Long acting meds behave as short acting in my body, so can't take anything long acting...which prevents me from being able to use a breakthrough med). I want desperately to get off the Percocet and detox, hoping I can start over. I've gone up the ranks from APC with Codeine, Lortab, Norco, Vicodin, etc, till I'm now on this high dose of Percocet. I'm not ever zonked out on it, though I think I've hit the max on it, cause I have lots of breakthrough pain. 15 mg is no longer 'enough' for the kind of pain I have.. I'm just dependent on it after 6-7 years of using it. Hopefully there's something new in the pain med field now that I could use till I can get totally off this strong med. I have a new Internal Medicine physician who can help me detox. Any thoughts? Also is 15mg Percocet a 'too high' dose? My new MD seems to think so, but websites I've researched say not at all. Percocet contains Acetaminophen and Oxycodone. However, in the U.S. there is none with 15mgs of the Oxycodone, it only comes in a maximum of 10mgs with the Acetaminophen.

Are you having it specially compounded? Or are you actually just taking Oxycodone, but itself?

That said, the best way to detox is to follow your doctor's instructions, as it can be a very miserable experience if done wrong and even dangerous.

Verwon: I'm sorry, I guess I wasn't very clear about the dosage of Percocet when I said '15 mgs'. I had originally been on 10 mg Percocet every 4-6 hours for pain; and after several years my MD changed the order to 'Take 1 1/2 tablets by mouth for pain, as needed'. The current Rx reads 'Take up to 9 tablets by mouth, in divided doses'. I never questioned him, altho I can see now that it's brought to my attention, that this COULD get very confusing. I KNEW that I could never take more tham 9 a day, from the way it was written earlier. But I just started with a new MD after 35 yrs with the one I was with since 1975. And this new MD doesn't feel comfortable with more than 6- 10 mg tabs per day, and has refused to write a script for anymore than that. I'm really nor quite sure how to start coming down off it. I know it can be dangerous and I don't want to try it alone. I think the best thing to do is find a pain management doctor to guide me in this,. I have far too many other medical conditions to deal with , and this on top of them, would more than 'fill my plate'.. . Thanks for bringing this to my attention. I'm always open for any 'helps'.

Day 6 of withdrawals from Percocet 30's... Was doing about 5 a day... Weined down to 2 per day... If I was to take 1/2 wld it reset everything I have been through already for 6 days... Slept only about 15 minutes in about a 9 hour period, restless legs and couldn't get comfy... I had diarrhea all night and have not eaten a good full meal in 6 days... Just don't want to damage any progress I have made...

No, it won't be a complete reset, unless you'd start taking it regularly, again. It can often be a good way to mitigate the withdrawal symptoms, doctor's often have their patients skip days, while lowering their dose, to taper off of such medications.

Thus, if your doctor approves, you can do that.

The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.

Is there any place in Canada that will do a RAPID DETOX for high usage of percocet (discreetly)? I know that if I can get over the initial detox I can handle the rest. I'm now taking approximately 100mgs per day.
