Dilaudid is a semi synthetic keytone or Hydromorphone HCL, so it is i feel its twice the potency of morphine, short acting though. I take 70mg Methadone HCL and Dilaudid for breakthrough pain. I did also get Percocet 10/325 but after this new law he would not give me a one. I never ever felt like a dope addict but yet feel they are scrutinizing me at some pharmacies. I am sick to death and because some people are just plain ignorant they ruined many lives of good upstanding folks of all ages. If he continues to cut me down i will go to another. I need help with that but i have no idea where to go in the Denver metro area.

I don't understand how you are able to feel any narcotic with 70 mgs. of methadone in your system. Methadone works almost as a blocking agent once one has arrived at a personal "blockage dose". I, unfortunately, have been taking Methadone for 32 years. I say unfortunately for personal reasons and not because the medicine itself causes me any problems. My blockage dose is 50 mgs. a day. Any opiates taken after I have ingested the 50 mgs. would not be felt.

Ummm. I'm afraid you may b a little confused. Suboxone is the drug that cuts off any high from opiates....it helps receive pain w out any form of a high. Vivitrol is the med that will make subject violently I'll if they take an opiate while taking it.

Methadone is a milder pain med used to wean addicts off their opiate of choice but is also used for chronic pain in general. Esp if folks have immunity to morphine. It does give you the same warm fuzzy feeling but the actual high is much less. I was prescribed it WITH oxycodone simultaneously for pain management in the beginning of my treatment 5 years ago. Take care. I wish you all the best.

Well, sorry to hear this. For one thing you are being tricked in a way, many docs do this. Methadone is and can be a great pian killer at the start, but Becouse of its massive half life and the way it works it can be problematic. Also taking a dose of 70mg the. dilaudid at 2 or 4 mg will not to much if anything. The problem is hydro morph bioavailability is low in oral form, oxymorphone or opana is even worse as about every 10mg your given you body only gets about 2mg of opana .those to meds where made to be used iv and Im. Now there is a great drug out hi-potency dilaudid, but it's in iv and I'm form so getting it will be almost impossible. The problem with all opioids have always been the meg return, and the almost always need for titration.

So what to do. Any good pain Doc should adjust and change your pain meds every once in a while.

Methodone does not block. It only seems that way. What it does block is any of the high from the other meds, but it will not completely stop the analgesic properties.

Methadone a milder , methadone is one of the strongest pain meds out there. It just not used much for it. And once the made a law that only up to the 10mg tabs can be used for chronic pain it's a nightmare having to take 10 pills at a time. As a matter of fact methadone in i.v form is extreamly strong and makes morphine look like asprine

Dilaudid only works 2 to 3 hours so what's the point of even taking it

Not true, depends on the way it is administered,3mg suppositories last,a lot long, if your taking it orally it low bioavalivilty has a lot the do with it. Hydromorphone was designed as a i.v. i.m sq med

Re: Jennifer (# 1)

When you say that the other opiates won’t be felt because methadone blocks the Euphoria. That’s correct but the drugs still work for the right purpose which is to help with pain.. I’ve been on Methadone since 2001. I am grateful that when I had to be prescribed other opiates after surgery that I didn’t feel any kind of euphoria..
