Randall, it doesn't have to be a PCP to give you the referral, I always got mine from my Orthopedic doctor...if you don't have an orthopedic doctor, you could go to one of the many Urgent Care clinics around and if they don't give you a referral to pain management, for sure they help set you up with a PCP...or go to your local Health Dept., don't know what part of NC you're in but my part, around the Ft. Bragg area, would help get you set up. Good luck~

I'm disabled. I have degenerative disc disease. I'm on ssi. I also have MRIs. I need right shoulder surgery asap. I have Medicaid but just moved from g.a back to n.c and dont have a primary care Dr to write me a referral. I've been on oxycodone 30 mg and some muscle relaxant for about 25 years. I've had 3 knee surgeries and wear a shoe lift. I need help to get my meds. Please write me back. I need to get an appointment asap. I ride Medicaid transit so I live in Rutherfordton n.c and need one close or in Charlotte n.c. Thanks so much. {edited for privacy}

Hi Tom, sorry to hear you've still had no luck. There are pain management offices by Cape Fear Hospital but they all will require a referral. If you don't have a primary doctor the only thing I know is to go to one of the Urgent Care places and try to get a referral from them. They'll either give you one or set you up with a primary doctor who then will give you a referral. Do you go to any type of doctors here in this *cough* city? If so, you could get a referral from them. Got mine from my Orthopedic doctor for the last 3 pain management places. Fayetteville is strict because of all the abusers we have here! The police are getting them everyday but doesn't matter, as there are so many here! Good luck but chances of getting to a pain management without a referral is slim, very slim, in fact I'd go as far as to say impossible but who knows, you might luck up and find one of those doctors that charge you a couple of hundred dollars to get a 'script. Take care~

Tom, I live in Fayetteville, NC. There are several pain management places here and all that I know of require a referral plus records/MRIs/X-rays from last pain dr. you saw, in fact I've been to a couple that have you take an MRI before they will see you. Your best bet is to call a few and ask them if they'll see you with no insurance, you can find some in the yellow pages in a phone book or just google them. If you see Sandhills Physical Pain Management, forget about them as they closed down last month, that's where I was going so ended up having to get a referral to go to Neurology and Pain Management. Yesterday was my 2nd time going there (they increased my 7.5 oxycodone to 120 a month), and so far I like them, everyone is so nice there! They're located on the North side of Fay. What part of Fay. do you live? If I knew that I might could tell you where the one's closest to you are. I know we cannot post our email address on here but wondering if one can post phone numbers to pain clinics? How long have you lived here in this *cough* wonderful city? Good luck and if I can be of help, just let me know. I'd say call Cape Fear Valley Hospital and ask them but not sure if they'd help you...you can thank all the abusers we have here for that. Take care and good luck~

Tom , Do you have a primary Dr? Because you're going to have to get a referral to the Dr that writes . All Over the Charlotte, Gastonia to Arden,Asheville to Greensboro. That's all I know. I don't know any that don't need a referral but if any 1 does. Please let us know.
