Oxycodone Alcohol Mix

Hello, I have been prescribed Oxycodone Acetaminophen 5-325 for pain. Which I'm guessing is 5mg of oxycodone. I took two pills at 1pm. How long should I wait before I can a beer? Just one beer.

Hi Omar,

According to umm.edu as well as other drug interaction checkers, alcohol and oxycodone have a "high potential" for drug interactions. This interaction goes on to state that taking the two together should be avoided due to an increased risk of serious side effects, including but not limited to: Trouble breathing, low blood pressure, fainting (coma), respiratory distress, many of the symptoms/side effects/impairments that come with actually being drunk, and even death.

Having read all that, it seems to me like it would probably be best to just stay away from “any amount” of alcohol period while you’re being treated with oxycodone. But if you really want a beer that bad, I would just talk with your doctor first, to at least be on the safe side.

Hey David, I was hoping to get a clear answer as to how much time does it take for the oxycodone to not effect me anymore. Is 12 hours enough time, should I wait 24 hours?

My doctor actually told me that yeah, one beer would be ok. In a perfect world he advises against drinking, but said 1 wouldn't kill me.

The reality of it is that the timing for oxycodone to be excreted from the body is different for everyone. Many people say it only takes about 2-5 days to be out of your body, while others who've been on large doses for several months/years may be longer. Other factors such as age, weight, metabolism, frequency of use, etc, may also determine how long certain substances stick around. But I suppose if I were to give a rough estimate based on the feedback of several others, I'd probably side with the 2-5 day-range crowd, since those numbers seem to be the most prevalent in terms of the responses I've been seeing here.

However given that your doctor said it was ok to drink, then I guess that's really the only opinion that matters? I just wanted to provide some facts about the potential risk factors of doing so.
