Oxycod/apap5-325mg

What is in this combination drug oxycod/apap 5-325? I take one-half of one of these tablets two to three times for back pain and have been doing so for about 3 months. Is that dossage in the long term addictive and can it do damage to my liver?

You asked this question at the perfect time because I was just researching Acetaminophen and liver damage only moments before I saw your post.

I came across an article stating that, "In January 2011, the FDA announced it was asking manufacturers of prescription APAP combination products to limit the maximum amount of the drug in these products to 325 mg per tablet, capsule, or other dosage unit. The FDA believes that such a limitation will reduce the risk of hepatoxicity, liver failure, and death related to APAP overdose."

The normal daily dose limit for adults and children 12 and over is 4 grams (4000mg). At around 4 grams of Acetaminophen (4000 mg), liver toxicity sets in. That said, 325mg should be certainly be considered safe. I don't have an answer as to whether or not it will be addicting though, since these medications can effect each person differently.

Regarding the combination of Oxycodone + Acetaminophen, those are really the only two active ingredients in each tablet. There are also inactive ingredients comprised of binders and fillers, which do play a significant role, in so far as how you metabolize and absorb the medication.
