Hello, Delta! How are you?

Opana is actually twice as strong as Oxycodone, so it would take 20mgs of Oxycodone to equal 10mgs of Opana and how well it works can vary from person to person. There are other posts on here from people who had better results with Oxycontin than they had with Opana.

The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.

However, I'm glad you found one that works for you, that's the most important thing.

Is there anything I can help with?

I just spent 3 years in a pain hole due to Opana ER 'junkie proofed' tablets. Was on 30mg Opana since Jan 2013 after my insurance no longer covered the Oxycontin 60mg OP [aka junkie-proofing]. First let me say the 60mg Oxycontin OP I personally found to be a far more stable dose than the previous versions of the drug before the OP.

There aren't that many medications that I can take. What I do not need is anything contributing to my fatigue. Finally after *3* years on Opana 30mg I just begged for a change. I knew an increase wouldn't help; only give me a headache [I didn't even get constipated with it! In general pain meds actually control my IBS/Colitis to normalize me].

Today is only halfway through day 1 of Oxycontin at 40mgs op and I am happy with the result and will stick to 40mgs if after the next 72hrs-14 days are just as good.

I was concerned as the 60mg was my previous stable dose. However my insurance will pay for the OC/OP at 40mg and my doc is willing to do the prior auths if necessary for the 60. But we are trying the 40 first.

So last night instead of taking the last opana 30mg; I took the oxycontin 40mg. Also had deep inj's. in my cervical spine so the bruising pain was upon me too. I felt fine. [I am expecting the worst hoping for the best and holding the 2nd Opana 30mg if I experience any sort of withdrawals in the next 72hrs to mitigate it and help the body adjust]

For 3 years, [fyi I see my doctor 2 times a month] I've complained about the effectiveness of Opana. For 3yrs my doctor has explained that it is a stronger med than Oxycontin [both however metabolize in the body down into the same drug....the metabolites they check for are the same. Side note; with opana ER and IR I started to fail the U/A's and pass at the lab. I take as prescribed and really OCD about taking them as prescribed. Tried to mess w/the times before and found the best coverage being as close to 6am-6pm spread as possible with the IRs in between. It wasn't until the insurance no longer covered oxymorphone IR that I started to get some relief again with oxycodone IR and no coincidence my U/A's started to come up normal too.]

For 3 years my life was more existing than living. I was more active once the IR was changed but nothing like I was with Oxycontin 60s OP. Now after 3 years of passing the Opana 12hr thru my body [especially morning dose] I have hope that my life will be more normal again.

Every one is different. It's one issue I have about doctors getting upset with a new patient asking for a particular drug and that being labeled a 'drug seeker' for doing so. What doctors have stated they need to keep you on a particular drug is your history and a letter of rec from a previous doctor; it's all in how you approach it.

So oxymorphone may be perfect for some bodies and not perfect for other bodies [mine!]. It couldn't just be the coating as the IR wasn't helpful and did give me some stomach upset. None of which I get w/ oxycodone based meds. Jan 2016 is a late late reply!

No way, nothing is as potent as 80mg oxys except 160mg oxys. Opana could never even come close to equaling oxycontin. I've taken both and am only able to get opana any more and I wish I could get oxys again. Ever since oxys have been gone from the area I live in everything else is garbage. Roxi's are garbage and opanas are garbage so everyone is turning to illicit drugs and a lot of them are dying cause the dealers are too stupid to evaluate their product and cut it accordingly. These ghetto ppl with no education and no skill are only out to make money. Plus the DEA needs its war on drugs or they'll cease to exist and you can be sure them and the CIA are letting all this happen.
