Norco Withdrawal

Updated

My husband's medication is missing he has been taking 6 to 8 20mg of norco at a time for 8 years for small fiber peripheral neuropathy. We don't know what happened to his pills. They are just gone. He is left with his Lyrics and Fentenal patch. What kind if withdrawals is he looking at suffering through? His legs are jumping and has hardly slept. Not to mention the pain. How long will it last?

Hi angela,

Sorry to hear about your husband's situation with losing his pills. I can't imagine how that might feel after being on them for 8 years and suddenly not knowing where they are... Have you checked all the random places they could end up (i.e. jacket pockets, laundry room, under the car seat, etc..)?

At any rate, regarding opiate withdrawals...NIH.gov notates the following symptoms as being what they consider "early symptoms of withdrawal": Agitation, anxiety, muscle aches, increased tearing, insomnia, runny nose, sweating, and yawning <- not like yawning isn't considered to be normal though...My guess is that it's probably just referring to yawning more often than usual.

Continuing on... NIH.gov also lists the following set of what they call "late symptoms of opiate withdrawal": Abdominal cramping, diarrhea, dilated pupils, goose bumps, nausea, and vomiting

Symptoms are thought to begin within about 12 hours of the last dose and may be very uncomfortable, but not life-threatening.

Ref: nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/000949.htm

On the contrary, with Fentanyl itself being an opiate, part of me questions whether he even has to worry about opiate withdrawals (depending on how many patches he has left)...especially since Fentanyl is considerably more potent than Norco (Hydrocodone/Acetaminophen).

The duration of withdrawals can be very different for each individual based on a number of variables. However, my thoughts would probably be to discuss that in more detail with his doctor who can better evaluate his overall condition in-person and make an appropriate determination from there. Personally, I've heard of some patients undergoing withdrawals for several weeks, while others longer or shorter. It really just depends on the person I guess.

Hope this helps!

That's a lot of norco to just up and lose!!?? Yes he most likely will go through norco withdrawals for 3 days or so...I've seen it quite a few times with my wife. Cannabis helps with nausea & vomiting, but other than that Good Luck! & look in to a pill safe!

Lost heck, somebody stole them. Yes, a family member is most likely the culprit or a so-called friend. That is A LOT of MONEY on the streets! Blood pressure meds(clonidine,if you can get) help with withdrawal & that is just too much to be on in the first place! No one should be on that much and taking that many, his Dr. did him no favors by giving him that amount. It is un hear of! Also benadryl might help some, something to make drousy & try to relax. I am surprised he is not dead & overdosed with that much. You can bet the DEA is stopping that. Sorry, but that is just unreasonable, when we out here are having trouble getting just a 1/4 that much! They were stolen NO DOUBT! In my opinion & I am a nurse, RN> NEVER take that much, EVER, AGAIN! I am in pain also & have to take meds. But, what you are saying is unheard of!

I was taking 8 Norco 10/325 daily until I was switched to Fentanyl Patch 37.5 mcg/hr and 3 Norco 10/325 daily for breakthrough pain. So taking (at the time) 10 per day was well within the approved limits of no more than 4000 mg of tylenol.

5 years ago I was diagnosed with CRPS (Complex Regional Pain Syndrome). Since then I've been prescribed a number of meds to manage my chronic nerve & muscle pain (Lyrica, Norco, Zohydro just to name a few). I'm going through withdrawal from the Norco 10-325 (2 every 4-6 hrs max 8 in a 24 hr period). I was wondering if Zohydro ER 20mg will help lessen the withdrawal symptom I'm currently experiencing. I wasn't planning on ending the Norco abruptly like this. My plan was to step it down slowly, safely, & at my comfort level with the direction & advice from my pain management doctor. Anyone who's experienced a similar situation or has knowledge about these drugs, I BEG YOU, PLEASE RESPOND ASAP! I will be SO GRATEFUL for any responses!! Thank you for your time & efforts to help me again.

I have been taking two 5/325mg norco tabs per day for 1 1/2 years. What are the withdrawal symptoms if I slowly and gradually taper off them? I have been taking them for severe colitis and abdominal pain.

Hey everyone, I have been taking Norco for a number of years, I have been through withdraws and it's terrible. I know that getting off of them is a good thing but I do suffer from chronic pain, over the counter pain meds just don't work, not for me anyway, the over the counter meds are just as bad for your body but not addictive, so this is my concern, how dose one get off the addictive meds that work, to taking over the counter meds that don't work? It would be so much easier to get off the Norco if the others worked as good, any advice?

Hello . The amount I say he was taking is confusing “ 6 to 8 20 mg per day “ I can’t even make out what that means . Norco do not come in 20
Mg pills . What was the mg amount he was taking per day, and how any times ?
