Norco White Or Yellow

Updated

Ok, I don't care what people say, pharmacy or manufacturer, the yellow norcos are stronger and work different. It is getting extremely more and more difficult to find the yellow norcos. From what I can tell, the major pharmacy's, ie: WalMart, cvs, Walgreens, target, etc, all have either the plain white ones, it the white ones with reddish/pinkish dots on them, and the smaller mom and pop(good neighborhood pharmacy's) have the yellow. Last month I filled mine at target, got the white oblong norcos (10/325). Today, I filled mine at a small good neighborhood pharmacy in Ontario, California, name available upon request, and I got the yellow Watson Norco. Again, huge difference. I don't think they quit making them, I just think that when buying in bulk as a large pharmacy does, they get cheaper ones. Smaller pharmacy's order smaller amounts and probably have a contract, ORRR!! Its an older supply. But I do know they are still out there, available. They work better, last longer, relieved pain more effectively and more rapidly, do not make you as tired, allows one to function on a daily basis more so than that others. Just my 2 cents, but them just taking the dye out, unless that dye contains some magic beans kinda s***, its more than that.

I would kill to get the old yellow Norco - 10/325 from Watson. I have been told that they no longer are made. Generic substitutes don't work either. The white 10/325 is producing horrific side effects; unsteady on my feet, weakness, woozy, etc. If you think there is a pharmacy in Ontario where they are still available, I would be most appreciative of the name.
Many thanks

Ever since Actavis bought out Watson, it seems like most of their products have all started to go down hill. I get the sense that they're trying to save as much money as they can by using the cheapest ingredients/binders/fillers to put into their tablets.

Cheaper ingredients are usually less effective or in some cases are genetically modified, adulterated, carcinogenic, or who knows what else!? Maybe a good analogy would be comparing organic produce to those with pesticides on them and less nutrients.

They may be cutting costs behind closed quarters, but their schemes become more apparent when their medications stopped working altogether.

Do any other manufacturers brands come close to the old Watson?

I cannot agree more!!! With the yellow I'm functional, productive and don't feel high, dizzy or weird. There's just less pain.

The Malinkrodt give me projectile vomiting which makes my back pain worse and the pink dots hurt my stomach so badly I can't eat.

It DOES make a difference to each person. One size does NOT fit all.

Wow...I have a several herniated disc's in my lumbar and agree the yellows are more effective...at first I thought it was in my head then I found this post. I also live in Ontario... can you tell me what pharmacy you use? My IEHP covers almost any pharmacy.

I would be most appreciative of having the name of the pharmacy where you were able to purchase the yellow Norco. Since August, 2013, my quality of life has greatly diminished. That is when the change in color was made at my pharmacy here in San Francisco. My doctor has let me try a number of substitutes, but all leave me off balance with diminished capacity. I have had no luck trying to find what, if anything, was changed when the color was changed. At the lab, they read off a list of active/inactive ingredients, but when I asked if that list had changed in any other way besides the color, they said "that's proprietary."

Mallinckrodt 10-325 are junk. The ER gave a prescription for 10 of them when I ran short, so I took it to CVS, which has good quality Xanax and their people never question you like some kind of Joe Friday in a white coat.

I took one 10-325 and an hour later took another. I hardly felt anything. I had two Actavis 5-325s left and one of those worked better that four times the dosage from Mallinckrodt.

I went to my doctor's office the next day and asked her if I could get the 10-325s because recently I found it necessary to take two 5-325s instead of one. He wrote me for 120 of the 10-325s.

I went to Target and they had a long wait, so I went to a different CVS than I had been to before and asked what kind of Norco they had. The tech knew without looking: The dreaded Mallinckrodt. "No thanks," I said and went to Target, bringing the Sunday NY Times crossword with me. The wait was worth it - they had the yellow Qualitest pills, which actually work.

I figured that Mallinckrodt must be made in the former Soviet Union, being as bad as it is. I found out that it is a U.S. company, but they don't tell you where the actual drug is manufactured. Probably in Uzbekistan or Bangladesh or one of those wonderful places.

Stay away from Mallinckrodt. How they got the FDA to approve this watered-down junk is anyone's guess.

I get them at Target. They're the only place I've ever seen that has them.

I just posted a comment similar to this issue regarding the Watson Norco.

FIRSTLY, (I know this is an ongoing debate amongst patients, physicians, pharmacists etc..) But, In my opinion... and very plausibly it works as this:

The regulated amount of medicine that 'should' be in each pill/dose is the same. The binders, additives, etc.. of the pills are different for each manufacturer.

Both me and my husband have been treated for a long time for Chronic pain conditions and have done quite a study.
(NOTE: We live in a small town in Louisiana. And use a small town family run pharmacy.)
In our experience, calling different pharmacies chain/private (doesn't matter) you're bound to be met with some trepidation because of the stigmas associated with pain meds now. But exasperated as they may be, most will tell you what brand they have. You just have to know. The few pharmacists that I spoke with said it's whichever the Drug Rep for that pharmacy got cheaper that week/month. That's why it switches and often why all pharmacies in an area will have same brands. Also how busy they are will determine how many deliveries they'll get.

I'm responding to Caspah - (January 2014)
If you receive this, I would be most appreciative of a response.
I've been having a terrible time with the "new" Norco, but didn't think there was a chance of getting the yellow tablets - which worked so well for me until the change!

Agreed on the yellow ones being more effective. Same goes for the DAN soma. They ARE more effective than the TV's or any of the others.

I've noticed target has the!, rite aid used yo, but any of the smaller pharmacies have the yellow ones. I have yet to find a small pharmacy that doesn't have yellows.

Anne Marie: target has them, some rite aids have them, and about 90% of small pharmacys carry them. You can usually call and ask if they have the yellow norco 10/325 and some will tell you. Others can be d**** about it. But most of the 'Good Neighborhood Pharmacy's have them.

I am at my wits end. I CANNOT find a pharmacy that carries the yellow. My last attempt I got the 'mellincrap' (nickname). I figured, well MAYBE it'll work for me. ALL I DO IS SLEEP, my blood sugar drops (I'm hypoglycemic), rather it PLUMMETS and I feel just horrible. Also constipation. I've tried nearly every white pill out there since not being able to get the yellow. Is there somewhere we can all report this? It's OBVIOUS we're being given substandard pain pills. I have been on yellow norcos for 12 years now, NEVER had to up my dose, it always worked well and kept me functioning. Now I'm just a dazed, tired, constipated i****... IN PAIN. My pain is CHRONIC and incurable. Myself and my doctor were so happy to get me on a regimen that worked for me, that I did not have to increase EVER. And now I'm MISERABLE. WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO? And the excuse that they cost more, I'd PAY the extra to get my old yellow Norcos, they are THAT much better. I guess that's probably against the law though or something. I have valid prescriptions, I'd be willing to pay their extra cost over what my insurance covers. I just don't get this, I KNOW the yellow ones are still out there, but it's a nightmare trying to find them, and the last few months it's become completely impossible, even in mom and pop stores.

Go to target. Target always has the yellows.

Raley's Pharmacy will order them for you if they are out. You must request the yellow Norcos. I agree about the new Norcos especially the white ones. They are GARBAGE. I have been taking pain meds for nearly 30 years. This is the first time I am getting zero relief. If it were not for my Soma I would not get any sleep. I can not say enough about these new worthless Hdyrocodone/Apap placebos. Target gets them sometimes . Walmart gets them or will order them but they are way expensive. Like over a thousand bucks for my prescription. UC Davis pharmacy has the yellow Norcos and they take a lot of different insurances.

I picked up my norco pills yesterday and the pharmacist gave some white ones instead of the yellow ones. He said they are discontinued and they don't make them like that anymore. I tried the white ones and they're not the same, but the pharmacist said there's no difference. Is it true or does he just want to continue selling me my medication which I pay for out of my own pocket?
