New On Subutex, Day 3 Now And Side Effects Quite Bad

Updated

Hi all, I am on the subutex programme for a tram and codeine addiction that got way outta control. This is day 3 of the programme and things aint goin too well on the side effects front.

I am itching like a flea ridden cat when trying to sleep, pharmacist says it will calm down in a few days, I wanted to hear from experienced patients only on this as to whether its true? (very akin to the tramadol itches)

Also the main problem is that me and my partner are trying for a baby and I cant climax which is a major problem? pharmacist looked it up in the list of side effects and there was nothing listed. Have any of the male patients experienced this and if so does that sort itself out too?

On the plus side, I am almost 4 days clean (if you dont count the meds) just need to sort these side effects out and things will look much rosier than they already are

It is quite normal to experience side effects, when you start any medication and they can take anywhere from 2 to 6 weeks to taper off.

Learn more Suboxone details here.

After just a few days, it's expected that they would be rather intense and annoying. I do understand your concern and frustration, but the pharmacist is correct, things should settle down, after awhile. It just takes a bit for your body to get used to a medication.

If they don't, or if they get severe, then you should contact your doctor about it.

This is an opiate, so it does have the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation, in addition to what you're experiencing.

Are there any other questions or concerns?

Hi I have been on subutex my whole pregnancy which I had the same issue the itchies will go away, well did for me.Other than that that's awesome you got help before trying to conceive.I had already conceived by accident while having a pretty out of control pain pill addiction and as soon as I found out I got right to an addiction specialist for help.meetings are great to go to as many as you can so that you don't have a problem when you do conceive with cps.As far as climaxing I have a problem with that from the subs from time to time.If your guy is on sub also he may have a problem also, but it usually just a takes a longer session if you know what I mean ;)but keep your heads up.good luck and god bless.

Hi....Subutex, Tramadol, Codeine make you itch because the drug facilitates the release of histamine into the bloodstream and CNS. It's odd because I know of people who enjoy this feeling. The itching (pruritis). I took codeine for pain a couple times and found it annoying but at the same time it comes with euphoria. When you start to itch you know the drug is working or about to. Glad you got help. One day at a time right??

Yes I know subutex is half agonist antagonist but probably itching an alot of side effects cause it to be way stronger of a drug then codeine an ultram together. I was on 140 mg of methadone a day 90 30 mg oxycodone immediate release 3 a day break thru pain and 90 hydrocodone 10mg -325mg Tylenol for break thru and I didn't take the hydrocodone. I would have if I didn't have the Tylenol, hepatitis c, but if it was really needed I would do a cold water extraction. I was on that daily regimen just from breaking my back and patella. I was on even more when I had my open heart surg at 28yrs old. I've been on it all, just methadone was the best for pain long term mixed with some xanax an clonazepam temazepam at night or some halcions, but that's why I had to switch to subutex. My neurologist retired and every other had a waiting list but no way could be a dad in a coma all day so subutex was a life saver. I wasn't sick. It helped pain and I wasn't in a coma, but yes it seems in my humble opinion I would of reduced the tramadol and codeine before going to a stronger medicine unless like me u plan on being on opiates for life, cause then, yes I agree, but if you're planning on trying to come off I probably would've been easier with what u were on.

KoKo, Meds can have side effects, But!! You can do practice episodes where you can gradually increase the duration by taking your time with your partner, enjoying the moment. There is a book called Good Girls Guide to Bad Girl Sex. It's a great resource on how to get to know yourself and your lover. I highly recommend it. Practice practice practice, be patient with yourself and your lover. Learn each others likes and desires. Have fun, enjoy it, play. You may surprise yourself.

You should be good man, the first few days off pills or dope are the hardest, so your almost past those days, so you should be good. And as for the itching, opiates have always made me itch (ive been clean and on subs for 3 and a half years), I still itch every now and then on subs, but not near as bad as codeine. That's something that may occur every now and then. I hope that helped you, and I hope you are doing better now.

Things get better I promise but my libido has been awful. The program saved me. However I do have problems with my libido. No urge but I go to the doc and try new things. You can do this I promise. I have faith you can do this.

Yes you would have been better off tapering off the tramadol and codeine. You stepped up to a much more powerful drug with suboxone. I've been on suboxone since 2010 and hope to remain on it for life. Suboxone keeps me getting up and going to work every morning. Years of addiction have destroyed my natural dopamine receptors. Or my body just forgot how to make It's own dopamine.

All opioids including suboxone/subutex and methadone drop testosterone in males and estrogen in females dramatically and that explains sexual side effects. It is like nature knowing that these drugs are not good for the baby, so the brain shot down capacity to reproduce in both male and females to prevent the baby from being expose to them.

You should've never been on Subutex or Suboxone. Those are very strong medications that is like going from smoking a cigarette to smoking PCP or something. I don't know why they would put you on Suboxone or Subutex if you were addicted to Tramadol and Codeine. Suboxone and Subutex are supposed to be given to people that were addicted to opiates or taking a s***load of I can't even imagine how many pain pills or morphine. You should have just detoxed off the Tramadol and the Codeine because now your ass is going to be in way more of a hurt detoxing from Subutex than it is from Codeine or from Tramadol, but good luck man good luck.
