Well this was originally approved as an antidepressant, which later was found to help with some types of nerve pain.

Whether it will help you or not, is something that no one can guess. These types of medications are great for some people, and don't work at all for others.

All you can do is try it for a couple of weeks and see if it helps you.

Sharon - I hope you read this. If you divide your face into 4 quarters, from ear to ear thru your nose and from chin to your fore head thru your nose, and you find that your pain is in one of these quarters there is a good chance you suffer from trigeminal neuralgia which feels like sharp jabs of extreme pain. if this is the case get you doctor to refer you to a neurologist who hopefully will perscribe carbamazepine (200 mg strength) for you. I suffered from this for 8 yrs till I found a doctor smart enough to recognize my symptions. Depending on your age there futher steps he will advise you on. But if you have the above symptions you must see a neurologist !

i have been prescribed lyrica for my neuropthy and it works really well. I take it with other meds and it really surprised me how great it worked.. on side effect was blurring of vision, and inceased appetite which went away within a week and never came back. I have severe neuropathy.

In 2000 i had a slight stroke which led to me finding out i had an unusually large AVM. I had this treated in 2003 with gamma knife sugery and was told in 2006 it had been totally obliterated. In 2008 afterr suffering bad pains again i found out i had an aneurysm on the opposite side but the neurosurgeon didnt want to operate straight away due to me having the stroke previously, they decided to monitor it. After being prescribed medication for something else i had another slight stroke and after being admitted to hospitalthey found i had a growth coming fromthe aneurysm and said they needed to operate. I had a craniotomy. I have suffered quite alot with nerve pain since and the cold wind and hot weather play havoc with my head. Ive been given medication which hasnt suited me,these being pregabalin 150mg, these made me so confused, well much more than normal and my head felt totally mashed. More recently ive had duloxetine 60mg, these made me feel so sick i couldnt even drink and i couldnt move, all i wanted to do was sleep. Please help, my head is so sore and my face chest arms back etc are too and covered in sore spots

amitriptyline 10mg was prescribed by my physician for the same problem. It worked almost immediately. I am now getting off of it after 2 years to see how things go.
