Hello I'm looking for a new Dr that will take over an fix my pain meds an other meds I'm on. I been to numerous pain management drs an tried pools tens unit all non narcotic an inj's which after the first bad episode they called them off. its in my records. I see back doctor at UVA an also seen 4pain management doctors there too who did a recommendation to any Dr I find that they can write an prescribe all my pain meds an any mgs an I gotta do at home physical therapy over a course of years starting at age 24. I became disabled an been on all types of medications. my spine Dr said that it's no way to operate on my spine cause I'm still walking but I have days I need help to get out of bed. I'm supposed to use a cane but only use it when I have those bad days but my doctor is going to retire an the new lady doctor won't give me what I'm supposed to be on. I'm currently 38 an been on opiates for years in high doses so some ppl say but all it does for me is let me get through my day an then I can't sleep so I take 2 late night an when they finally got my medications right this new Dr cut me in half an I never been through this crap. I'm no junkie. I'm not addicted but co dependent on them. so I was on 360 30mg oxycodone ir 30mg not to exceed more than 12 in a 24hr period also on 2 30mg oxycontin which old formula worked fine but the new ones didn't so I ask to be taken off those oxycontin an just use the 30mg oxycodone ir for all my pain issues, cause after years of all types of opiates an mgs that finally gave me a normal life I was able to get up an go do things that I never could do. I did try to stop on my own to see what would happen an I'm in pure terrible acute chronic pain so I went back an the lady gives me only 120 15mg oxycodone ir an oxycontin 20mg that I don't want. they don't work plus I was having issues on them but I need a doctor in Virginia area to treat me right like UVA pain management gives any doctor willing to treat me they can so I don't have to drive to UVA every 28days an if any surgery comes available they will contact me an I don't need to come back to see them. I got records of my disability but I never felt so bad since the meds she won't write it an only give me the 120 15mg. My body is hurting so bad an I'm not right staying sick an in pain feels like I'm having withdrawals with the small amounts cause on the 30mg I was getting around not sick felt alot better an only needed them instead of multiple opiates as I been on over the years an I can't understand why they don't want to help me cause the Dr or any doctor that gives me my pain meds are not held reliable. Like if I overdose or anything happens cause they seen me an recommended the opiates an started with oxy er an oxycodone ir so I tried all kinds of pain meds an high doses finally the 360 30mg oxycodone ir got me through my day an night I could finally interact with my 2 sons. I was gaining my weight back I also no there's no medicine in the world that will completely stop the pain but it does make my life bearable.

I was not mean an I'll to my family I was able to get up an outside on my own an now that they cut it to half, I'm mean can't sleep eat hardly walk, can't do much of anything on my own. I can't understand why I'm getting done this way so I called an talked to pain management an got some advice from others an pharmacist an its possible that my body might not adjust to the meds an mgs due to all the years of multiple opiates an high doses also back then I used to drink alcohol along with meds for good 10plus years which I'm sober now but with my pain an feeling sick like withdrawals I had thought about drinking but its not gonna help just cover till I wake up but I got plenty of legitimate reason to be on the oxycodone ir 30mg an it works better for me than all the meds iv ever tried I just need a doctor that can write the 30mg oxycodone ir 360 a month plus the rest of my non narcotic meds that's how UVA has it set up an I'd like to find a doctor that listens an understands, not a judgmental Dr. I don't drink anymore or use any illegal drugs other than what's prescribed to me but I'm not doing good on these 120 15mg oxycodone ir they think my sickness an delusional episodes an just real weak an can't get no appetite is due to the big mg cut an my amount of medication that has landed me in the hospital cause once the nausea starts I get admitted to the hospital for 3to4days cause it won't stop an soon as I get 2 30mg oxycodone ir in me 2 every 3to4hrs after I'm on them for a few days sometimes I can do 2to3 every 4to6hrs, not supposed to take more than 12 in a 24 hr period they did that way cause my pain interferes with my sleep, but I need a doctor willing to do that on a monthly basis. until then I'm going nuts an pain is terrible an they said it could last from here on till I get back on the right dose an I also had a brain injury which also could be affecting my life long pain an injury an its a shock to my body to go from what was working done to only 4 oxycodone 15mg ir a day so I'm really needing a caring understanding doctor in Lynchburg Virginia or Roanoke Va or Bedford Va that has no problem writing my one pain med an my other non narcotic. anyone any doctor that can help me plz contact me Ken soon as possible, the sooner the better, but I don't need pain management. I'm already in with them an they are helping by my recommendation to be treated by a closer doctor. thanks. Ken in Virginia

Here is some of my detailed info an why I'm on disability and need pain meds to get through my everyday activities. I been on alot of narcotic an non narcotic meds, also tens unit an they did a shot in my spine which they called them off due to almost paralyzing my lower body, but I'm in UVA pain management which sent a recommendation for any doctor to treat my issues with pain meds so I didn't have to drive every 28days too far away, an I also have to do in home physical therapy as we tried the other practices which never helped and only made things worse, like swimming pools an etc but my doctor is retiring an the new lady doctor don't want to write the meds I been on since age 24. I'm now 38. On my recent paperwork they put down chronic back pain chronic nec pain disorder depressive nec syndrome carpal tunnel impotence of organic origins hyperlipidemia nec/nos migraine nos w/o mgn w/o status migrainosus pain in joints multiple sites degeneration lumbar/lumbosacral disc hypertension essential nos that's just a start of problems and I'm in chronic acute pain all the time. The meds help me get up an push through my day an I can't sleep at night like I should due to pain so that's another reason for around the clock opiates. They had my condition and meds perfect at one point in time but I had been through a few different doctors an my documents got lost so I had to go back an start all my diagnostic problems an meds all over from scratch. So I need a doctor that's okay with writing my pain meds 360 30mg oxycodone ir not to take over 12in a 24 hr period an do away with the er oxycontin pain med as it does nothing but stop me up. So I'm just needing 1pain med prescription not 2 an my blood pressure an stomach med Diazipam for my bad PTSD anxiety an panic disorder an phenegren as needed. But if there's a doctor that can help me plz contact me. I'm looking for a doctor in Lynchburg Virginia, Bedford Virginia, Madison Heights Virginia, around any of those areas. Roanoke Virginia will be okay also. Hope someone can help me with this. Thanks, Ken

First of all your first doctor did a big disservice to you by prescribing that much short acting oxycodone. While your new doctor needs to lower your dose more slowly it sounds like you are just making excuses not to try other medications such as long acting opiates which would help you sleep though out the night. I have been on MS Contin for 15 years and have been on the same dose. I decided that I also need to look at other things I do for myself to help with my pain but being on a the long acting medication and the principal part of the drug I get good pain relief though out the day and night. I also wonder if your demand that only short acting meds work for you is because long acting oxycondone now is made so that if abused they will no longer give the medication all at once like it use to be.

When you are on opiates, doctors want you to see you doing everything possible to help with your pain other than just taking opiates. What are you doing for yourself? I don't know what your pain issues are but are you doing things like trying to use heat, ice, lidocaine ointment or patches, stretches, exercising breathing/relaxing techniques or are you just reaching for pills? I don't know you but what I am saying to you is what 95% of doctors are hearing from you and will they will run away from you.

In fact I surprised you found a doctor to continue to give you any opiates at all. Now let me clear your doctor had a huge part in the mess you are in and you are stuck finding the answer. If I were you I would find a new pain doctor and go in there and state look I am on tons of this meds and I want a quality of life without taking all of this. Be honest on what you really tried. My doctor and agreed that after 15 year's on Ms Contin that high dose needed to be lowered. So we tried doing this. Each month my meds (I take 1 pill 3 times a day) is lowered where my dose for one pill is lowered by 10mg. So if I am taking 100 mg 3 time a day the next month I take 100mg 2 times a a day and 90mg once a day. The next month it 100 mg 1 time a day and 90 mg 2 times a day and stay on that for a month. It has been a slow process but my meds are 30% less then when I started and my pain has probably increased by 5 percent which I am doing other things that I did not do before to help me like lose some weight, get some exercise.

Overall I do feel better. When you go see a doctor and willing and wanting to do a plan like this to get your need for pain meds it will look like your are serious about feeling better. You talk about your use of alcohol and being sober which also tells me you have some experience in the rooms. Most people would just say they stopped drinking. But someone who is willing to drink while on opiate medications even though that was the past may indicate you maybe more then just dependent on the medication. I don't think you will ever find a doctor who give you the medications you want along with the amount and being all short acting. You need to do some thinking about how you can take control of your own life instead of the pain or pills. Opiate medication is a important tool for pain control but doctors are requiring patients to find to use other tools also in conjunction with opiates. BTW no one including myself will say this will be easy for you. I wish God speed and some luck thrown in.
