Naltrexone Implant

Updated

Hi, I just had the 12 month implant inserted; for opiates. Can you please tell me if I drink will it interfere with making it less effective, especially in the first month when the capsule is growing over it? I have a wedding today. Could you please let me know? I don't have a drinking problem. I'm a 33 yr old woman. Thank you

More than likely, you should not even feel like drinking...I have been on it for about a month and just the thought of having a drink makes me sick. This drug is a life saver!!

Hello, Lois! How are you?

Tom is correct, you will most likely need to stay away from alcohol, this medication is also used to treat alcoholism.

Trying to drink while having the implant could result in severe nausea, dizziness and stomach pain, as listed by the FDA.

Is there anything else I can help with?

I also have a naltrexone implant. For fentanyl addiction. (synthetic morphine) be very, very careful with drinking whilst on naltrexone, I've heard many people say "you won't even feel like drinking" that's total bulls***. It started of with me having a couple here & there, now before I get ready to go chill with mates, go to N.A meeting, anything social basically, alcohol is immediately on my mind. The naltrexone is NOT a magic wand. Regardless of what substance your battling with, we are addicts, and always will be, councillors are essential! Just try Stay the hell away from anything habit forming / anything addictive. Because your body is in shock, desperately trying to silence cravings, coz before you know it, you'll be a few weeks into de-toxing, and without knowing it, you'll have a brand new demon / addiction to battle. Total abstinence is the ONLY way to benefit from naltrexone. If you have any more queries, please feel free to email me. {edited for privacy}

Cheers
