Mylan 4250 Yellow Capsule

What is it like? Is it like Xanax? I was prescribed it and I want to know more about it.

The pill you're describing marked 'Mylan 4250', is a 50mg Doxepin hydrcohloride tablet made by Mylan Pharmaceuticals.

Doxepin differs from Xanax in that it is a tricyclic antidepressant, whilist Xanax is a benzodiazepine class drug.

Even though both have similar applications for anxiety and depression... They both function differently from a pharmacological perspective. According to MedlinePlus.gov, Alprazolam (Xanax) works by decreasing abnormal excitement in the brain. Doxepin on the other hand reportedly works by increasing the amounts of certain natural substances in the brain that are needed for mental balance.

Some people with certain chemical imbalances may respond better or worse to either medication. It is up to you to work closely with your doctor on determining which substance is more beneficial for your unique individual body chemistry through trial and error.
