Muscle/nerve Ache With Eliquis And Niacin Or Statin (Page 9)
UpdatedSince starting Eliquis, I have felt much stiffer and sore in the mornings and during the day with muscle tightness in my neck and back affecting my upper arms. A general sense of early aging that is unpleasant. Anyone else with these symptoms?
This is MAD MATT again. All I can say is that Eliquis almost put me totally out of commission. Muscle weakness and pain, and tightness in my neck and shoulders. I felt like I had aged 20+ years. At age 77, this is awful. It also messed up my brain. So I demanded a switch to the old standby, Coumadin. I have been on it for 2 months, and almost totally back to normal. As I have for 40 years, I run on the treadmill for at least 4 miles, and can go much more. My comeback was a little slow, but noticed lots of improvement in the first two weeks. SO BE PATIENT if you decide to switch. Eliquis seems to hit us older folks who are very active hard. Just my opinion here. DO NOT LET YOUR DOCTOR TRY TO TELL YOU THIS IS IN YOUR HEAD. THEY ARE DEAD WRONG. Yes, Coumadin requires blood tests, but this is well worth it in getting your life back. The squeaky wheel gets the grease!!
Re: MAD MATT (# 161)
I just wanted to let you know that not everyone does well on condominium either. The nurses were never able to get my blood regulated over a 9 month period. My hair fell out horribly so much so that one could see my scalp in many places, and the bottom half of my fingernails fell off. How does a woman live with that? But Eliquis is killing me, too. I aches so bad sometimes I cry. Any answers?
Re: Ethel (# 4)
Hello. It took about 21 days. I did a detox anti inflammatory diet ( minimal sugar and gluten) and drank lots of water. It worked!!!!!
Yes,my muscles are weakjpbb i6. and bones seem to hurt and have less balance
I switched to Coumadin from Eliquis in August of 2017. All I can say is that all the previous symptoms I experienced with Eliquis are GONE. Coumadin is not perfect, but for me, Eliquis was a DISASTER. No more neck and shoulder tightness and pain, no balance problems, I can once again run on my treadmill like the old days for one hour, and the leg weakness is gone. When on Eliquis, I could barely get on the treadmill. And also the brain fog I was experiencing is gone. Coumadin may make a little tired at times, but not serious.
Re: MB (# 158)
My brother is taking eliquis. His feet are freezing, all the time. One docyor told him it was bad arteries and to do nothing about them. He has aged so much. His neck, shoulders and arms hurt really bad. He is very weak. At one point this summer, his arms felt numb below the elbows. He has a body wide burning under his skin that is debilitating. Does anyone else have that burning feeling?
Jeff
Having severe knee joint pain with 5mg. Eliquis. Pain moved from one knee to the other.
Re: Bren (# 166)
Hi, you are not alone in this problem and if you read messages on this article you will no doubt see that I reply to lots of people. I originally had A.F but that's what TO said despite me being given the all clear by my Cardiologist. I had an Echo Cardiogram along with EGG and Carotid Scan all were negative however new doctor suggested I should take an Anticoagulant really I was never very happy about it but was told well you don't want to take a stroke do you. I then decided to start this wonder drug twice a day and I've now been on it for almost 3 years. It affects my Spinal Stenosis causing burning like pain in feet and legs and I can assure your doctor that I DO NOT have an arterial problem. I walk every day and do not sit about. I now have terrible burning pain at top of fingers. I have more episodes of IBS than ever before and that IS one of the side effects. I have terrible tinnitus, joint pain, including neck, knee and everywhere else there is a joint.
Throbbing sensation over sinus. Terrible insomnia, lucky if I get 2-3 hours of sleep. All in all, we ALL can't be wrong and I for one don't make this up and just wish I had never started it. The crowning factor about ELIQUIS there is no antidote that is of great concern to me and I just wonder how many people know that if you were to be in a road traffic accident you could simply just bored to death and that's not a joke.
Re: Janice (# 10)
Since being on Eliquis I have had immediate memory loss. I gained weight and am very tired which isn’t me. Worst of all, when I walk my legs get very weak. I feel like a person with MS. This is the worst for me. I sell real estate and must sit down instead of going throughout a house. That’s the one symptom I want to know if others have had. I take flecanide and dilthiazem but I think this is the culprit.
Re: Jeanne (# 169)
I haven’t had the memory loss and the weight gain I attributed to Metoprolol but I guess it could be the eliquis. But the lead legs I definitely think is the eliquis and I agree it seems like MS. Poor balance and legs just don’t want to work lol. Good luck to you
I am now on Xarelto since my surgery in May. I have little to no side effects. I would ask to try Xarelto if any of you are having stiffness and soreness. It is a night and day difference switching from eliquis. You can read my past 2 posts to see how awful it was.
Re: M (# 171)
Yes, M, I also was on Xerelto for 6 months prior to switching to Eliquis. I switched to Eliquis because of excessive bruising. I am quite active. The bruising was much better with Eliquis, but then the muscle tightness and pain kicked in, along with me feeling like I aged 20 years in two months. So I tend to agree with you that Xerelto may be better here. But I have now been on Coumadin for 4 months, and I have virtually no side effects. Back to "normal", and I run about 12 miles a week on treadmill with full energy. With Eliquis, I could barely get on the treadmill. So I have been on all three, and I have to say Coumadin is best for ME. But everyone is different here. GOOD LUCK.
My brother is experiencing the joint pain but his shoulder and neck and arm pain is the worst. And his feet freeze all the time, which makes him feel too cool all the time. I have another serious question; Has anyone been diagnosed with a blood disease since on Eliquis? Has your Dr found any malformed red blood cells during a routine blood test? I am curious about a theory of mine. Thank you.
Re: MAD MATT (# 172)
Thanks Mad Matt I was able to qualify for 10 mg per day on Xarelto and am told that the bleeding and bruising is not much worse then asprin at that level. I have been on Coumadin as well and got along very good i just don't have to watch my blood thin levels all the time with Xarelto. I am very active and doing mechanical and welding things quite often and have had no problems even though i often cut myself. No excessive bleeding that I have experienced at this lower dose and I have not had any DVT so very thankful. Hope anyone on eliquis with problems can find as much relief as I have.
Yes I have had horrible experiences. Very sore muscles and very weak. Almost like a person with MS. They ache so much I get little sleep. It upset my stomach as well and I felt like I lived in a fog. I’ve off it for five days and a I feel like a million bucks today. I’m done with it.
Re: Margie (# 170)
The lead legs are due to Eliquis plies memory loss, fogginess, upset stomach and fatigue. I’ve been off of it for five days. I feel 20 years younger and like a million bucks.
Re: M (# 174)
Hopefully the Xerelto will do nicely for you. However, be alert to potential muscle issues, since Xerelto works much the same way as Eliquis. And YES, going in for monthly checks is a little bit of a pain, but I am happy to do it instead of the alternative.....FEELING LIKE I AM AGE 100 WITH ELIQUIS. I may try to go natural soon with my particular issue.....slightly irregular heartbeat AFIB. We shall see here. I always like what JAZZY says....GO NATURAL with garlic, ginger, Vit c, etc. VERY TEMPTING.
Re: David (# 1)
Eliquis is like having MS. constant pain in the thighs, weakness, unable to stand for long. Total muscle weakness. It is the worst bleeder of all the thinners per my gall bladder surgeon and has the most side effects. Find another one.
Re: MAD MATT (# 177)
Yes I agree I have had a bit of stiffness from the xarelto so I will watch. It is so much better than the eliquis it is unbelievable. It is strange because they are supposed to be very closely related.
Re: MAD MATT (# 177)
I was able to go natural for 11 years. That's such a good choice when you can make it work.
