Multaq Anyone Else Take It

Updated

Okay I will start off by saying this drug scares me because it has not been out for very long. I have Afrial Fib which is not behaving I can be 70 beats one min and regular and the next I will be at 190 and in atrial fib and flutter. this is my last chance at a med I have tried all the others I usually end up in the ER two or three times a week. I have had one ablation so far. If anyone else takes it please let me know what it is like. I am starting it on Tuesday.

I seem to be in the same situation you are in, however, my heart is rate controlled and have not been in the 190 range while in afib. I just started on this new medication yesterday. I have not experienced any of the side effects so far. I will go to the doctor tomorrow to determine if I can continue on this medication. I have not had an ablation yet. If this medicine does not work, I will consider the ablation.

Multaq didn't work for me, it didn't change my uncontrolled rates. but it did make the rates and flutters less noticeable. My rate was 225 and I thought it was around 115. Which in respect is not safe, I am scheduled for a 2nd ablation this coming Monday. Lowpressor seems to help bring my rate down but it doesn't stay down for very long. Hope Multaq works for you.

I have been on Multaq over a week. So far one episode since being on this drug.My highest heart rate has been 122. Never had the ablation. What helps me is Metoprolol 25 mg. 2 x day. I am 71 yrs. old and in good physical shape (diet, exercise etc). This thing scares me a lot. Hoping Multaq will work. It is very expensive here $4.30 a pill. Any coupons??

Hi Liz, I take 250 of metoprolol and am no longer taking Multaq. I couldn't find discounts on it any where. Hopefully this ablation that I am having on Monday will work, the last one just made it worse. He might put a defibulator in which has a built in pacemake if the ablation makes it go to slow or if the ablation fails and it is still to fast.

I have been on Multaq for a few months now , I make sure I eat before taking it, It has helped me , better than anything else, I have had 2 ablations , Its only been 2 months since my last 1 , I have only had 1 incident of afib , and that was brought on by a drug interaction , My Main problem with this Multaq is that I also suffer from Panic attacks and General anxiety, most of my Meds I can not take anymore since Multaq , Neurontin is the only drug I seem to be able to take in 300 mg doses , anyone else have interaction problems with Multaq ???

I had been taking diltiazem (180 twice a day), metoprolol (50 twice a day), and then flecainide if I had an afib incident. Recently the afib started happening more (3x in the last week for a few hours each time). Never had ablation.

Just switched to Multaq plus still taking metoprolol as before. Will let you know how it goes.

had my second ablation this past monday, just got home from the hospital. this time it took 14 hours under general anst. and they dropped my head on the table when I was out. But so far my afib is gone, my rate is between 59 - 81 only taking cardizem 120 now and my blood thinner, potassium, mag, and a few others my bp is runing around 110/60 the best it has ever been. I lost a lot of blood, my head is killing, my lungs are full of fluid, but I have a heart that is not jumping out of my chest I hope it stays that way will o back to the doctors next friday and decide if a pacemaker is needed.

I was in the Adonis test program for
almost two years. This drug kept me in sinus mode for nine months after I had completed the testing. It is FAR
...FAR less toxic than Amiodarone.
I can't say enough about how I value the new drug...Thank God I'm a vet, and get the medication with no cost. I hope the cost will come down, as it gave me zero trouble...
I have beaten severe diabetes by losing 50 lbs. with diet and walking
a lot... I only take a minute amount of Metformin, now. If this med allows me to go back into Sinus, I can reduce my intake of blood thinner, etc. It sure feels great to be light and agile, again. It takes the bite out of diabetes, with all the
horrible issues, like neuropathy, daylight blindness in the right eye, and swollen ankles. In my experience, Multaq, was a Godsend, and I thank heaven that I'm back under its influence.

Well, perhaps I spoke a little to soon. After my last post I ended up n the hospital for 7 days. I am either in A-fib, A-futter, or have an irregular heart beat. I also have some p-waves going on. Oh well at least my rate isn't 225 anymore. Does anyone know can your lungs be in a flutter?

I have had one ablation and it did not work. Have tried every medication there is for afib and nothing works. I have been on Multaq for 2 months. It has worked better than anything I have tried. I still go out of rythm occasionally, but not like before. The one side effect was a skin rash. My doc said to quit the Multaq, but I didn't because it has helped me so much. Has anyone had a problem with skin irritation?

I have been on Multaq for about 12 weeks now. I had two episodes of A-Fib when first starting drug and have now been fib-free for 6 weeks. I have an ablation scheduled in 1 week but don't know what to do now? Has anyone tried having a glass of wine while taking Multaq? I am kind os scared to try as this was a big trigger for me.

Ed: I don't think wine would be a good idea with Multaq. If your a.fib.has stopped for so long why bother with the ablation. Just wait for a while. This is a new drug and I don't think the doctors know enough yet. I know it has worked for me. So why fix it if it is working?

I have been on Multaq for 3 months now , I have been A-Fib Free , I have been taking 400 2 Xs a day , My BP is 110/60 , I have had 2 ablations , Multaq is the best of all meds I have taken , I just started taking it 1 xs a day , so far so good , the only bad thing is the brady Cardia , when my heart beat is under 60 ,

Alan: Did you have the ablations before Multaq? Are you still taking 400mg. 2 x a day? I'm on Multaq but only take 1 pill a day ..it is working so far (1 month). what a relief.

Question. Does anyone have problems with high blood pressure during these A-Fib episodes, or is it just tachycardia?

Jan: During afib. my heart rate is up to 115-124 and blood pressure is a little higher .. maybe 130/90. Normal for me is 110/70 with heart rate 65.

I saw the cardiologist today and we are not going to do the ablation. He says Multaq works in roughly 50% of the population and when it works, it works well. I am hoping to be in that group! He aslo said a small occasionl glass of wine is probably OK - I tried a small amount tonight so we will see what happens.

I have been on Multaq for about 1 month. Only Rythmol and Flecanide worked to control my AFIB, but after 1 year on each they were no longer effective. I have had no side effects from Multaq, but it is expensive & NOT COVERED by Medicare.

Hi I am a 53 year old women, average weight and active. I was on Multaq for several months and had numerous episodes of a fib rvr. I understand what you going through. I went off of Multag because I felt I was having more frequent episodes. I was then prescribed digoxin and flecanide. I kept having episodes and now have a flutter as well. I have had 1 ablation 4/18 and I was free of any arrhythmia for 3 months and then it came back with a vengenoius. I have now been placed on propafenone until I can have another ablation in 1/19. I have had a sleep study done and showed positive for apnea and now use my machine religiously.

Can I cut a Multaq pill in half and take 200 mg instead of 400 mg? Or can I take it 1 time per day? It's making me sick.

I am a 58 year old male, and I had Afib and atrial futter. My doctor put me on Multaq 400mg twice daily. I underwent a successful catheter ablation procedure and have to remain on Multaq and Eliquis for a month until my heart heals. I have had some very bad side effects from Multaq. Severe bloating (I would wake to a rock hard, bloated gut) and couldn't bend over to tie my shoes without feeling breathless. But the worst side effect has been from being in the sun, I make my living out door in Florida, and I have turned into one big rash all over all my exposed areas. I am going to put a ton of suntan lotion on to see if that helps. I decided to cut my doses in half in the mean time.

I tried it two times. Once several months ago and then just two weeks ago. For me, it was definitely NOT the answer. Oh, it worked for my afib, but the side effects were worse than the afib. I had nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, dizziness, and overall fatigue. It’s a drug that just doesn’t agree with me. But, as I said, it did control my afib.

Re: NancyO (# 205) Expand Referenced Message

Please let us know how you do. I’m new to Multaq. My afib seems controlled by the fatigue and diarrhea are very debilitating. I’m considering cutting the dose in half and adding magneseum supplementation. I’m eager to read how you do.

I was formerly on Multaq. It made me very tired. Did not have problems with hair loss even though I have read several posts about people losing their hair. I had two heart ablations and no longer suffer from A fib. It will be two years in March since procedure. The ablation gave me my life back. I no longer take afternoon naps. I can travel without having to locate hospitals in case I need to be converted. I no longer have spikes in my blood pressure. I made many trips to the ER with bp of 180/110 numerous times before the ablation. I am 67 . Only issue I have now is aortic stenosis. Brought on by Rheumatic Fever when I was young. My valve will eventually have to be replaced. Saw cardiologist this past Friday. He told me this may have to be done in five years are so. I consider myself lucky. I highly recommend the ablation if you have a fib. It is life changing. I waited five years to do it. Do not regret it for a second.

Hi! I just began to take this med and per my internist I should only be on it for 6-12 mins max as this med has other health consequences: congestive heart failure on lung problems. It certainly stops the afíb, but that med should only be a short-term solution.

You mentioned you had ablation done--per my cardiologist the ablation is to remove the afíb-controlling mess; check this further w your cardio.

I haven't yet had the ablation done, but did have cardio version done which stopped the afib and now controlled w the mess.

Good luck!
