I was on 130mg's of the morphine sulfate every 12 hours. When I accidentally took two and called the poison control line they told me that 200mg's was the highest they prescribe anyone and that's on their death bed. Now they have medication that is stronger but they can only safely prescribe so much morphine without destroying or damaging your organs. But I'm pretty sure that the highest they go on the extended release morphine is 200mg every12 hours. Please be careful taking them because if you make a mistake like I did and take two doses its very dangerous. IT's best to put them in a pill box so you know whether you've already taken your medication for that day. When your on that much its very hard to concentrate and very easy to make mistakes.

i was on 100mg time release 3 times daily, but my system had just build up such an immume to the medicine, it really wasn't helping my pain that much. But my concentration was off, memory was very bad, i also was taking zannex .topomax, noritriplin, zoloft. But when they sent me to pain managment he cut my drugs in half one month and then half the next month. Pure hell...Nobody needs to let it get as far as it did with me.

Yeah, I'm having to go without fore a while. They put me on opana which my stomach isn't digesting because I'm a gastric bypass patient. So i guess the laws have changed recently and the Dr has to have recent medical documentation that you really need the stuff so I'm having to suffer until i get all of my test re- done. Starting with xrays. I remember how it made me feel and o dwelt the same way but i wasn't hurting and i could enjoy other people's company even if i was falling asleep. That's the only medicine that really worked for my passion that I'm not allergic to.t

I start shaking my nose pours, your freezing one minute hot the next. I got to where i was sleeping

Do you mind me asking what they give you for pain? The only thing that I could imagine that would work for my pain since the gastric bypass is morphine surface only because that's what worked on me before. Since I'm allergic to the fentenyl patch I just can't think of anything else that might work. I've been reading about Opana and it seems that everyone is unhappy with it. If the people that actually have a whole stomach aren't happy with it I'm sure that US bypass patients would have even more problems than them. I guess the pharmacy has mixed something with Opana that's supposed to make it impossible for drug abusers to snort or shoot up. This stuff they put in the pill made it as hard as a rock and it doesn't digest so now people like us don't have many options when it comes to pain medication. But the morphine sulfate would be a lot easier to digest even though its a capsule. So I'm wondering, what happens if I end up allergic to the morphine? The only other options would be suppositories or a morphine pump. My Dr doesn't want to do a morphine pump because of the dangers and problems you end up with. I don't know what is going to happen. I'm running out of options fast and I'm getting scared. I don't know if I would have had the bypass if I knew I would be suffering without pain medication. I'm afraid. The stress is getting to me so bad that I'm throwing up. Pain causes stress and then just the idea of wondering what's going to happen is getting to me. So now I have an ulcer. I'm pretty sure of it. I'm dehydrated from throwing up and my nerves are making my stomach worse. I'm in a world of pain and trouble. I've been praying so hard about this mess of a situation.

I take morphine sulfate and mine is in a tablet form. Its time release. I don't know how long ago you had your bypass but, honestly thats awhole can of worms on its own!!! Thats gonna cause alot of stress. They wanted to put the pump in back about 7 yrs ago and i said no, one of the smartest things i did, they can cause alot of pain there selfs not to mention , if anything goes wrong they have to open you back up. I've already had 9 back surgeries, so i have had alot of different drugs over the yrs. I started on 100 mg morphine cause i was taking 60 hydro's a week and it was eating my liver up. I don't mind anwsering your questions

A lot has happened since I posted this. After I finally got my morphine prescriptions and things were going well guess what happened! I ended up hallucinating for days. I thought I was going crazy. It turned out that I was having side effects and went into opiate induced psychosis. I went into another world. I was hearing things nobody else heard, saw things nobody else saw and was convinced that someone was chasing me with a gun. I found myself laying on the floor in pain hiding from whoever was trying to shoot me. I ended up in the mental hospital and they thought I was bipolar. Turns out it was the morphine. I was hallucinating. I am now on oxycontin which is better than nothing for pain. Considering surgery but don't want to be a repeat surgery patient as I hear that many back surgery patients end up going back for more and more surgeries. I have a total of nine problems/diagnosis with my spine and back.

I am having the same challenges as you. I was taking morphine, up to 100 mgs/3x's/day and my doctor suddenly disappeared. But, I found another caring and understanding doctor, a lady, also, who gave me a Butrans patch, which helped. But only using one, we found out my medicare insurance wouldn't cover it. So, she started me on Buprenorphine, which seemed to help, with my chronic pain, all over my body, having Mixed Connective Tissue Disorder. But, she suddenly disappeared too. So the head of the clinic, sent me to another doctor, but first putting me back on the morphine, after I was off of it for four months. She prescribed 180 mgs/day, then sent me to a jerk doctor, a man who looked at me like I was a drug addict and said there was nothing wrong with me. 13 years, I was diagnosed with the MCTD, but he claimed he read my entire history and said my blood results were negative with ANA. Yet, he didn't because, I haven't had blood work in over 2 yrs. & the ones I used to have, would come back positive off and on. As any, well written medical site, written by doctors, like WebMd or the Mayo Clinic's site, they will write that a positive ANA won't come up everytime. That's why it is so hard for doctors to treat chronic pain patients, who don't have cancer. This jerk, gave me another script, when I didn't need one, for the same amount of morphine. I didn't fill it. He said when I am off of it, I would just take over the counter pain pills, all which stopped working for me, many, many years ago, after having my two children. They ruined my gall bladder and started on my kidney. This man wouldn't listen to me, but kept watching the clock, so he didn't examine me, either, but dismissed me, after only spending about 5 minutes with me. Now, these doctors want to wean me off the morphine, slowly. If they hadn't put me back on it, I would have been fine. Stupid jerks. So, now I am addicted again. They refuse to fill my Buprenorphine, now I am out of that.

So to convince them I am not or ever was a drug abuser, I am only taking a 60mg/day morphine pill, from the head doctor's script. I am trying to cut the pill in half, down to only 30mgs/day, but I get such symptoms, like yours, horrible chest pains, horrible cramping in my GI tract, only able to pass gas, constipated again, vomiting, headaches and restless legs at night. Now, I, too can't sleep, exhausted and in more pain. So, I'm stuck taking a 60 mg, during the day, to help me get a little rest at night. I take 2 Trazadones at night, along with two Clonidines, but they don't help the restless legs. They will knock me out for only two hours, then the legs kick in. I have lisinipril and nitro for my heart, which has a leaky valve, to calm the horrible chest pains. I have an anti-inflammatory pill, a pill to rebuild my bones, Meloxicam and others. But, I don't take any of them, right now, for fear the combo would make my suffering worse. I only take the heart medications, when I have those severe chest pains, to stop them.

With this written, if you do find a solution to your problems, please let me know or I will do the same for you. The problem is, trying to find a doctor who will see me, since I am still on the morphine. I hope you are having a better luck with a doctor for you. If anyone else here, living in Sierra Vista, AZ has a doctor who will help them, not only with the easing of getting off the morphine, and for my horrible, intense chronic pain, please reply to my post, too. Thank you, for reading this long post. I am working on making a petition, for everyone to sign, placing it on the White House website, where they allow people to post their petitions. Once I get that done, figuring out how to get people, on these Chronic pain sites and others, then I will post that information for all of us. We need all the help we can get, especially when we are not drug abusers.
