Hi, Jane! How are you?

These are designed to slowly release the medication over a period of 12 hours, so they are normally prescribed to be taken twice daily.

However, some people do find that they don't get as much pain relief after about 10 hours, or so.

Learn more MS Contin details here.

This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.

I take 1 60mg @ 5am and again at 4-5pm of Morphine Sulfate ER. They don't last 12 hrs for me and I also take Norco. 10/325 1-2 every 7hrs. Those are about useless since they were changed. Only ones I can find are made by Mallinckrodt and they don't do a darn thing to help with my pain.

Verwon, Does the MS Contin ER come in 80 & 100mg? Does the ER mean extended release? Thank you

They are horrible for pain relief, be ready for horrible headaches, lack of energy and many more side affects, try something different first.

If you get your pain meds thru pain management and you took that morphine you better hope they don't do a drug panel, even at the doctor's office if they do that and see that in your system they may kick you out of their practice. All i am saying these days is that you got to be careful cos they are coming down heavy on people taking other pain meds... All i am saying is be careful. :-)
