Mirtazapine is a tetracyclic antidepressant, so it shouldn't show up on a drug test as anything.

I also did some research with our resources, that contain various reports on what medications have shown false positives for certain things and Mirtazapine has not been shown to give a positive test for anything.

Where you taking anything else at the time? Even if it was an over the counter product, please post back and let us know, so I can check for you.

I take 45mg Avanza on prescription before bedtime each day. I also failed a drug detection test on 2 March 2011 for having metamphetamine in my blood. I have taken no other medication or drugs, and am trying to find an explanation for the result.

I have been on remeron for 2 weeks now and ended up in the ER last night for severe anxiety and panic/depression/suicidal thoughts. I took a urine test and tested positive for METH (amphetamines) which i have NEVER touched in my life! Thank you for posting, I WILL NEVER EVER take another tab of this stuff again.

I would fall asleep bout 30 minutes after taking it. 2 hours later i could open my eyes but couldnt speak or move. My daughter seen me open my eyes and thank god she shook me because I couldnt move.
I just had a drug screen today and I am scared that they are going to say I tested positive also. I do not drink or do drugs Im afraid of pills and my father has a drinking problem. If my test comes up positive I will share.

The doctor put me on remeron and it was one of the worst medication they have ever had me try. I would have night terrors to the point that I would be screaming and no sound was coming out of my mouth and I could not move,I could not wake up and I could feel my heart beating really fast. I had no idea that a medication could have such horrible side effects. After being on the medication for 3 days I called my doctor and told her the new symptoms I was having. She immediately told me never to take the medication again. She even apologized for me having such horrible side effects. She marked it down in my chart that I was having terrible side effects to this medication. I will admit my doctor is awesome and she does follow ups as soon as she starts you on anything new. She request that after the second day you have started a new medication you phone the office and speak with the nurse even if your not having any side effects.

I had previously worked as a police officer for just short of 3 decades, and the last 15 years of that was as an undercover narcotics investigator. I had not slept more than 4 hours in the last 20 years .
I absolutely knew something was very wrong with my body, constantly exhausted, very negative attitude, and i had bad aches and pains, its just goes on and on.
I retired and decided to sit down with a doctor and "lay it all out on the line, then let the chips fall where they may, no lies, nothing held back" I soon discovered something called a 96 hour commitment order, which i narrowly escaped by having to lie to keep from a locked down mental evaluation.
my problems are manifested from 10 years of assisting in many dead body removals while assisting ems, picking up body parts from the homeless that frequently were struck then dragged miles by trains, guns shot victims, infant death syndrome, mangled persons in auto accidents, taking of a life.....then came undercover narcotics, i thought a welcomed change, but i was living multiple personalities, depending upon the person the suspect knew me as. I wont go into the undercover part far, but it turned out much more trying than the first 10 years.
during employement some of these troubles didnt surface in me and i failed to see it in anyone else, turns out we must have been theraputical to each other, because upon retirement things surfaced in me but my police support was no longer there.
the doc. i seen after leaving police work prescribed me xanax and mirtazapine.
the xanax alone has a calming effect on me, the mirtazapine with or without the xanax makes me meaner than hell, to, well anyone. in my mind i know as im speaking i am going to make someone mad, and I JUST CANT HELP IT.
its a horrendous anger, not a pick up a club and hit you anger but a tyson type "physical bite your head off" anger and it not well controlled. good gosh I would like to be normal again

Also taking more than 2 or 3 makes you wobble like hell I've literally walked into walls but its sometimes the only way I can get sleep ..be careful on any med don't trust what other people say when it comes to side effects were all different all those on tests please don't panic

Yes, mirtazapine can absolutely show up as a false positive. I am amazed out of so many posts nobody else came upon this info. It was listed on several sites. I found it accidentally while researching the side effects of weight gain and night terrors. Talk about some crazy damn dreams. I take it more for insomnia (the one damn drug that works for me) so I don't get too worked up about them. I ran across the fact that this drug does indeed provide false positives. Your Dr. SHOULD know this. Sadly most are lazy when it comes to pharmacology.

Are you sure it's not the dependence on the xanax causing the irritability?
