Migraines - Fiorcet Vs Hydrocodone
UpdatedI have a 25 year history of migraines. Prescribed 1 or 2 fioricet every 4 to 6 hrs. Crazy but true, can someone she'd some light? For severe migraine relief, I need to take 2 at once. If at those times I take 1, wait 45 min for relief then take the other, it doesn't work. My experience has been that basically I have to start over, meaning that after that initial 45 min wait, I have to take 2 at one time, hitting the headache quick and hard. Also sometimes you think you will need 2 at the start and end up knowing that that was too much. So clearly, not good. My question is how can this scenario be? And why doesn't hydrocodone even with some caffeine and tylenol work for my migraines? Migraines are such a balancing act. Going to try Depakote, but keep my fioricet close by.

It is most likely just a quirk of your metabolism, we are all different and sometimes our bodies are just weird like that. I have one friend who has no reaction to opiates, no matter how strong they are, they just have no affect on him, at all.
I tend to react badly to a lot of medications and experience most of the possible side effects, while my mother-in-law almost never experiences any.
We are all different, so there likely isn't any specific reason for this that anyone will be able to give you.
As to why Hydrocodone may not work, I can at least speculate on that, it can cause headaches as a side effect in some people that take it, as reported by the FDA, so it doesn't always relieve them for everyone. I get headaches from Dilaudid, which the doctors have always thought was weird, because it is commonly used in ERs to relieve severe migraines.
Have you started Depakote, yet?
