Methadone Withdrawals Suboxone

Updated

Hi there, this is for the people who are on methadone / or Suboxone. I've been on methadone for an opiate addiction, for a year now. My clean date is feb 2, 2015. At first, methadone was the best thing that had ever happened to me. I finally felt normal, and thought I was ready to get my life back on track. Well.. What a lie that was. I was at 75 mlgs of methadone from February 2015-August 2015, then started tapering off at 5 mlgs a week. I have a rapid metabolizer, so methadone never lasted longer than 10 hours in my system. Now I'm at 30 mlgs and I'm living in hell! I'm in constant withdrawal, body aches, sweating, hot /cold, emotional, aggressive... Etc. All I want is to feel normal again, but don't want to be tied on a leash to the methadone anymore! People say to just switch to Suboxone, but it's not any easier to get off of. The only good thing about Suboxone is that you can't use any opiates on it, it blocks all of the receptors that would otherwise make you feel high. So I'm stuck. I don't know what to do. I'm to weak to deal with these withdrawals again, plus the methadone withdrawals are WORSE than the opiate withdrawals. I want to be FREE, I want to live a normal life.. But no matter what I do, my life revolves around opiates because I'm to weak to deal with the withdrawals. Someone help me!! - my doctor also won't prescribe me anything such as (diazepam, Valium, or Clonadine) to deal with the symptoms.. But she's willing to keep me on the most addictive opiate out there for the rest of my life.... The system makes no sense. If your trying to kick an opiate addition.. Just kick it. Don't switch to methadone or Suboxone, it's a trap. And you will never be able to get off of it. But I understand that at the time of coming off of opiates, you just want to feel better, but just stay strong and try to do it without the other medications!

Hello, Emma! How are you? I'm sorry about the problems you're experiencing.

Actually, Suboxone is easier to get off of, via a slow taper under medical supervision. Most people that stick with Methadone end up on a lifetime maintenance dose of it and never truly becoming drug free, but Suboxone has allowed many people to eventually completely stop.

The FDA classifies it as an opiate that is most commonly used to treat drug addiction, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.

You should really consult a medical professional about it.

Is there anything else I can help with?

Re: Verwon (# 1) Expand Referenced Message

Does Suboxone help with serious long term pain? I understand that it's been a help for individuals who are addicted without physical pain. A pain management MD is insisting on replacing 50 mcg fentanyl patch and 3 10/325 percs with Suboxone and therapy. This leads me to believe that he didn't read my extensive records from pre pain management requirements, 1996-current.
I'm 1/2 through with my cyberknife treatments for cancer, I utilize alternatives for pain relief, however haven't found any way to function without the above narcotic medication. If Suboxone helps with pain I'm willing to try. Other patients have told me it doesn't help pain.
Thank you.
