Methadone Weight Gain And Taking Diet Pills

Updated

I have gained about 40 unwanted pounds from methadone liquid weight gain! I'm absolutely miserable!! I just bout Lipozene but I'm so scared to take it because I'm A.-Scared of causing withdrawals. And be scared it won't work for crap! I'm so so so discouraged with this weight gain. And of course they always fails to mention this as one of the main side effects to this crap! I wish I didn't even need to take this crap... I was much better off just taking tramadol and occasional hydrocodone. I'm so depressed with all this disgusting weight gain... PLEASE HELP!!!! Will the Lipozene work? Will it not cause bad side effects while taking it with methadone liquid?? Any ideas, help, words of advice, ANYTHING would be so greatly appreciated!! Thank you!!!

Hello, Mandy! How are you? I'm very sorry about the problem that you're having.

Unfortunately, since Lipozene is a supplement, I don't have any information on taking it with prescription medications. You should also be aware that it has gotten very bad reviews, most people that tried it were disappointed. You can read many of them on Amazon.

As to the fluid retention, that has the potential to turn into something dangerous, such as congestive heart failure, so you should consult your doctor as it may require medical attention, as reported by the NIH.

What is your average blood pressure reading?

I have been prescribed methadone since november of 2000 at age 23. I have always been petite. I am 5'3" tall and my weight has always been from 115lbs to 125lbs. But since I have had my 5 beautiful children and entered my 30's my metabolism has went way down. Around 2009 I gained 125lbs!!! And it all happened in about a year!!! My legs and feet hurt so bad when I walk! My shoe size went from a size 8 to a size 10! My legs and ankles were so swollen from the knee down to my toes! It was more swollen and painful than when I was 9 months pregnant! I became so depressed! All I craved was sweets! So I gave up the sweets, gave up the soda and started riding a bike and walking. And no more binge eating. Always eat breakfast, lunch and dinner and try not to eat in between meals or at night especially past 8pm. I lost 80lbs in about a year. Half of it in 6 months. Recently I have picked up the bad habit of sweets again! And in the past 6 months I have gained 60lbs again! Please don't binge eat sweets or any food and this won't happen. Now I got to start all over again and do what I did before but this time my goal is to go all the way down to my original weight that I was from age 14 until age 32. I am 39 and I don't want to live overweight and unhealthy anymore. I wonder if I wasn't ever on methadone if I would have ever gained all this weight to begin with.

Hey! I’m so sorry I didn’t see anyone’s replies! I’m still struggling with this weight gain.. so much so that I literally feel like I can feel fat building up in my lovehandles! No joke! Lol And yes I have high blood pressure and have had it since before gaining the weight and the beginnings of congestive heart failure diagnosed before methadone as well.. But I know that this stupid methadone is probably making it so much worse!! I just feel so stuck... I can’t get off methadone but I can deal with this weight either!... it literally consumes me 24/7... if anyone has come across any supplements or anything pertaining to weight loss that is safe to take while on methadone please please PLEASE let me know!

Re: Mandy (# 3) Expand Referenced Message

Oh man. I just read through everything that you all had to say pertaining to methadone and weight gain. Now, I completely realize that when I was using drugs my lifestyle was completely unhealthy and I was barely eating. However in my teens and my drug use my weight was 119-140. I am 5'4". Even 140 would be an absolute dream come true for me. Since starting methadone and a sober lifestyle in 2012 I have skyrocketed to about 200-220. Ho......ly......s***. I am so disgusted and disappointed in myself. I have aches and pains so badly in my feet and back from carrying the extra weight it hurts to WALK about half the distance I used to be able to run. I am humiliated in most all of my clothes. I am not dating much if at all. And my weight consumes my thoughts negatively 24/7. I have tried many supplements, diets and fad workouts to no avail and YES! ALL I crave is sweets!!! I want to lose this weight so badly but I keep falling into the sugar traps and failure. I need help. I need something. What do we do?! I need someone to understand how huge of a problem this is.

Re: Tara (# 2) Expand Referenced Message

Tara, I feel exactly the same way!!! And it seems like any slight progress I make just gets thrown right out the window if I do one wrong thing!!! And I can’t do a lot of physically rough exercises because I have rheumatoid arthritis.. I would love to know if anyone has had any success whatsoever with any diet meds, whether it be prescription or OTC... I’m so desperate at the point!.... I would just try to get off the methadone but the withdrawals are absolutely debilitating!... I just pray that someone out here sees this thread and discussion and has some kind of wisdom or help to somehow tell what will work or won’t work or to let us know what’s safe to take with the methadone and what isn’t! There has to be an answer somewhere out there!

Please try doing something called qigong, it is a wonderful healing way to balance the mind and body and anybody can do it. It has been proven to help even your detox; they say it takes about 65% symptoms away. I'm am a Chemist but began going into natural healing Chinese Medicine Herbology. Anyway, go on youtube and type in how to do qigong and different sessions will come up. I love doing yoga but have injured my knee making it very difficult and painful to stretch or get on my knees. I have both lupus an ms. My first round of methadone was after losing my lung and the pain was something I can't even explain. It took 2 years and weight gain of 150lb to detox out after being left on meds too long. I was out 4 years but I had got a huge hernia, my teeth had mostly fell out and I had skin hanging from my stomach after the weight dropped off. I started getting things fixed, they used Demerol on me and I did fine but my knee. My dentist would only use Percocet. Then I tore my knee up and needed surgery + therapy for 6 months. I had never heard of the med I was on but I took it as prescribed. It was called opana. Now I see they are taking it off the market. I begged for them to wean me down but they wouldn't. I had such vomiting it was horrible and went sick as a dog back to the clinic. I am at 90. Last time 180. I tried to keep it low and its been 1 year so I'm going down but I think I will have my surgery while I'm on the methadone. So give qigong a try... you'll feel good after.
